I wish, then I'd be REALLY loaded..

You know the G37 isn't off my list yet folks, and I know if I dog it a bit to start I may not be too disappointed once I see/test drive it in person. Looks like I have a shot at a GT-R at sticker though so we shall see..

If you can afford a GT-R ,why hesitate? Although I haven't seen the car in person, on paper it seems like one awesome car.

Don't know the price yet nor the estimated production #s, and I am pretty frugal. If the GTR ends up having a long run and costs a whole lot there are other cars that could be alternatives e.g. The Z07/Corvette SS(650hp), Lexus LF-A, and more.

Plus a G37 may be just fine for me.

To get back to Infiniti, if not for the G35 launch and the success of the FX, I believe infiniti would have gone under with unsufficient sales and being "eaten alive" by Acura and Lexus. Remember the times of the I30, old Q45 and such, decent cars but considered mundane with suspect designs, not the case anymore...GO INFINITI!

Also I hate those BMW forums insulting japanese makes and slamming on the infiniti cars, poor dopes spending a fortune for vehicles that break down quite frequently (former BMW owner glad not to own one).

BMW fanboys rock their shades on harder than Diddy. Although their speedometers stop working and their engines blow up (M3) and their motors overheat due to poor R&D (335i), they sure love their German machines! I know all cars have issues, but since a BMW is a BMW, it is the greatest of all cars automatically, did you not know that ?

BMW salesmen would want you to believe that. A few years ago I was comparing an Audi A4 to a BMW 330 and I told the BMW salesman that the cars appeared to me to be very similar except that the BMW cost $5K more, and I asked him why I should spend $5K extra on a 330. His inane reply: because it's a BMW. That's a huge premium for the airplane propellers IMO.

LOL , About 2 months ago, I was at the dealership getting my rear axle tsb, and while I was inside the showroom, there was a beautiful brand new 07 sedan. OB with stone interior, it reeked of beauty. Well anyways, there was a lady there with her fat a.ss husband, conversation goes :

Me : Its a beautiful car isnt it?
Her : Yeah it is, but I want a BMW
Me : What kind of BMW do you want?
Her :A 330i.
Me : This car right here (pointing to the 07 sedan) , will outhandle, will outrun, has a better interior, sounds better, and exterior-wise looks twice as good, than the BMW 330, for less.

Her: yeah but its a BMW

I pause for a few and respond with

"Well, what are you doing here at this Infiniti dealership, why dont you go to Braman BMW and buy your overpriced German machine, its obviously superior because its a BMW... according to you"

The look on her face was priceless, a true kodak moment, even her husband was stunned LOL . I quickly left the showroom with those 2 dumba.sses there and went to go scoop my coupe.

This has to be the funniest thing I have read in a while. Wish I could have been there to see the expression on her face.

That story says it all. Some companies spend a fortune establishing and marketing a brand. Admittedly this is important from a business perspective, because if you develop the brand properly, people buy into it rather than the specific product, and they'll pay a premium to do so. Prestige brands exploit psychology -- specifically people's desire to consciously or subconsciously use brands as self-expression... so that the attributes of the brand are conferred to them as individuals.

The interesting thing is, Infiniti has also created a brand, but it's a sort of an "anti-brand" brand philosophy. Infiniti doesn't underestimate its target buyers' intelligence, so they create a brand that says "I can think for myself and not be swayed by brand marketing, so I will buy an excellent car that competes with the best, but I won't pay much for an established prestige factor."

Ironically, consciously choosing not to buy into an established prestige brand has its own sort of "prestige", which to many people (myself included) commands more respect than anything associated with the established brands.

This is especially true with pharmaceuticals. A company may spend tens of millions of dollars developing a drug, and no one is allowed to copy the drug for x number of years so that the company can recoup their R&D with a profit. After the expiration of this protection, other companies are allowed to offer generics which are identical copies of the drug. Although the generic may cost only 10% of what the brand name drug costs, many people insist upon the brand name. I wonder if these people drive BMWs.
