G35 5AT vs. G37 5AT RPM's @ 80mph

^If you are in SoCal I have a 3.3 VLSD for sale. Not shipping it though.

The FSM says the 06 5AT comes with a 3.5 and the stock diff that was on my car was verified to be a 3.5. Originally, I always thought it was those that were equipped with the sports package that had the 3.5 until I saw the FSM so IDK.

Interesting, my RPM's are very high, IIRC it's like 3600 @90mph, 3300 @80mph, I always thought that correlated to the 3.69FD, well, either way the 3.3FD is perfect, 2900-3000 RPM's at 80mph is exactly where I feel a car that is suited for highway driving should be. Where in SoCal are you, I could drive out with a truck (I am in Flagstaff, AZ). I drove 450 miles one way to get this G35 so driving 300 miles for a diff isn't bad, how much? VERY weird. I think everyone who has ever worked on my car just assumed it was a 3.3 so that's what I took for granted I had. But now this has me really wondering... I looked back in this thread and some people who know their stuff (granted it was some time ago) were also confused or mislead...

Thanks for setting that straight Herrsch- going to dig a little deeper but judging by what SR was saying in the post above it really looks like it's a 3.5. Holy cow...

Interesting, so I suppose I have a 3.5FD, my tach shows 3400rpm's @80mph, which I always thought corresponded to the 3.69, I'll grab my scanner and see what the ECU/TCU says. If I was at 3400rpm's @90mph I'd be "ok" with it as that's only 200rpm's higher than the 3.3FD, but 400rpm's higher is just a bit much, I am pushing 3700-3800rpm's on the highway (90mph is my regular speed except through more populated areas). Must say though, the car has power in all the right places, just would need a 6th gear.

Is there any connection with the "tire and wheel" package or any other packages that might add the shorter final drive, or is it just 06-07 G35's?

^What size tires do you have? Also, are you certain your speedometer is completely accurate? The speedometer will be slightly inaccurate if you change the FD gearing on the 06 5AT's. When I had the 3.7 installed, my speedometer said I was doing 90 but in reality I was only going 80. Other than that nothing else will be affected.

GPS'd the car to verify speedo accuracy, it was right on...oddly. Well, RPM's were actually 3300 @80mph, and about 3800 at 90mph. I have NEVER experienced an engine working this hard on the freeway...again, I am not worrying about MPG here, but, this is quite ridiculous.

Since I have the tire and wheel package, I have the 3.5FD w/VLSD. Herrschaft, I have been MIA for awhile, but, I am still interested in the FD you have as, if I don't change this I am going to swap this car for an earlier model with the taller FD, yeah, it bothers me that much. The big issue is of course that this car is so cherry, it's hard to imagine yanking the rear diff out of a a car that has only 54k miles on it, how many miles are on your 3.3?

Agreed. Came from a Q45 which chilled at 2k at around 80mph. I noticed the higher RPM at my "normal" speed. Doesn't bug me. It's solid.
