Should I buy a g35?
Yeah man don't do it unless you've got tools and the knowhow to do basic work on cars, or you're willing to learn. They're reliable and can take a beating, but pretty much any car you buy now is going to need some sorting out right out of the gate, mostly little things like suspension bushings, window motors, valve cover gaskets, stuff like that. If you're pinching pennies you may not have a positive ownership experience.
Definitely agree with the previous posts, the G35 is a 10+ year old vehicle now and most will require significant maintenance. Sports cars aren't cheap to maintain, luxury sports cars are even more expensive.
Like everyone said buying a used G35 can be an expensive proposition.
HOWEVER here's the litmus test...
Can you afford to buy the lowest mile G35 Coupe or Sedan you can find?
IF and only if the answer is yes...then you're good to go.
I'll give you a couple examples....
One (an 05)
and
Two (an 06)
Both of these cost around 11,000.
Now most folks would say that's way too much to pay for a G35 Coupe and they may be right.
However both cars have under 50K miles, are in superb shape and will last you many years or trouble free ownership.
On the contrary, you WILL save money if you're willing to do your homework and find a near mint G35 with higher miles that a previous owner did all the maintenance on.
Most owners who do this (myself and some of us on the forums) usually keep all of our records and are proud to present them to the buyer.
If the seller doesn't have that mentality, RUN.
Look at the Carfax for 1-2 owner non accident cars. Any weird stories .....RUN..I don't care how good the car looks....don't take any chances...RUN
Definitely get a PPI inspection done before you buy.
If the car needs expensive repairs....RUN
Either way like everyone said, keep in mind the age of these cars and the fact they require possible expensive repairs the higher they climb in mileage.
You will have to do your homework with these cars. No exceptions. The more research you do the better the car will be towards you in the end.
If you're okay with that, then there's no reason why a nice used G35 Coupe wouldn't be a great car to purchase.
Either pay more upfront for a super lower mileage one or do your homework and be willing to endure some possible disappointment on your G35 search until you find the perfect one for you.
Best of luck!

Personally I would never buy a low mile G35 knowing that the stock front suspension bushings are probably still 15+ years old, same with the engine mounts, differential bushing, all the other "luxury" crap which only works well for the first and second owner. And I know from experience that if you drive it hard the stock dual mass flywheel will fail pretty quickly.
If I were getting a car to cruise around in comfortably and quietly and never drive hard in corners, I wouldn't get a G35 at all, I'd find me a nice newer Honda Accord v6 with a stick or something like that.
If you're getting a car to drive hard, go get yourself a G which has been beaten to **** and already has the suspension rebuild, diff bushing, new clutch/FW, and has enough imperfections for you not to care when you inevitably crash into something trying to drift. If you're worried check for metal shavings in the oil and get a compression test before buying.
