So what's the rule of these shots.. Just general photography?
Would also be nice if there is any flash used, post exif data as well.. Or actually, throw exif data up anyway..
And instead of using links to the pics, just put the pics in this thread.. Folks are lazy (me)...
Excellent thread Jared, I just moved it to the Gallery section.. Subscribed and will be adding to this soon.. Can also be used for general discussion of photography related stuff and critiques if desired.. Ya'll know me..

What are you intending to shoot this weekend? I think based on what you have just posted, something that would help would be for you to step back, and determine what your true subject is..
Then use the surrounding areas to find natural leading lines to that subject.. That will help you compose your shots to lead the viewer's eye directly to what you want us to look at..
For example..
#1 - My eye is drawn to the natural arch (because the eye is drawn to light, and it's the brightest part of the image), and where it leads, but the arch leads me straight to the edge right of the picture..
#2 - The eye is also attracted to sharpness, or lack there of, in this case.. Since you included so much foreground in your shot and shot at a shallow depth of field, my eye is naturally attracted to the bottom of this shot and then it goes to the sharpest part of the image which is the rock.. The boulder formation and sky behind aren't as sharp as the ground rock, so it doesn't harness as much interest..
#3 - I'd say out of the 3, this one has the most promise, but again, I don't know if I should be looking at the Mare (I think that's a female horse right?) or the baby in the ground..
I'd personally think the most interesting image composed of this situation would be of the fawn (I think that's how you refer to a baby deer and horse right?) I'm guessing you were trying to get the viewer to look at the fawn using the mare as a leading entity, however the mare is the most focused part of the image and the fawn is blurred in w/ the background.
I think you have ideas, it's just you working w/ your camera enough (time shooting more) to get what you see in your head, output by your cam.. Don't settle when you shoot. Part of learning is the frustration that comes until you get that shot EXACTLY how you want it and thinking through problems.. We all that have a little success with this went through it.. I'm still learning daily as well and by no means think I have mastered ANY of this.. Just trying to pass on some things I've learned over the years shooting as well... Shoot it till you get what you're initially going after.. No compromise.

Thank you Tony! I honestly mean that (which I know you already know). Your feedback is always substantial and relevant and I really appreciate that.
Keep pushin me, I'll get better.
As for this weekend - I'm just going to go out and walk around. If I run any errands tomorrow, I'm going to make sure I have my cam with me wherever I go. I have really been bad about not having my cam with me at all times and that hurts my progress more than anything. Since I rarely have time during the week, I really have to set aside blocks of time on the weekends that are solely for shooting. More than likely, I'll walk around where I live...more than enough going on to make it interesting.

love it!

I'll hopefully have some better stuff to share later this weekend.
