Got a light tent...first shots
What type of lights are you using? Are they variable constant lights or flash? you could also throw light back at the face/logo of the caliper w/ the use of a reflector/white board..
from what I can see, the light looks good, I think it's the product placement.. A LOT of lighting is playing around w/ the light to see where the reflections and hotspots fall..
Are you really trying to get the inner workings of the caliper shown, or are you trying to showcase the logo? The logo is about a stop to a stop and a half underexposed.
I'd think the logo is more important, or if you wanted to do both, you could show multiple calipers to ensure the logo was featured on at least one of them..
The lighting itself is good and even and soft.. I don't see a noticeable color cast either.. You seem to be lighting from camera left, throw another light on the logo as well on camera right and see what you get.
I'd just say play around w/ the placement till you find a spot you like, or maybe change your shooting angle. Also increasing your F stop would help the black look more seamless.. I can see the fold of the cloth you used at the bottom of the frame.

Tonight I used a tripod and was able to move the lights around a bit more. I think I need to iron the black background cloth, as it's got creases from being folded up. Shot in aperture priority, f/8. Took some shots and messed w/ the exposure compensation to get a good capture.

Gold caliper is definitely better.. If you're shooting w/ constant lights, your shutter speed is really more important at determining the amount of light that's hitting the caliper.. The aperture is merely determining your depth of field.. If you were using flash, then aperture would be controlling your light..
The placement of the caliper, and contrast of the logo w/ the color of the caliper are definitely better, and the ironing of the background helps, but you can always make that darker in post if you did still have wrinkles or variance in color.
