Before.....AFTER....
Thats a pretty hard lesson to learn. Even with a partout you wont come close to what you owe let alone another dd. Best case is to try and sell the car as a whole, but you cant because you still owe on the title. I would probably say a case would be thrown out too. You both had no insurance and no judge would ever give you a judgement off that.
plus, even if you sued the other driver, they can't even afford THEIR own ins. i doubt they have the funds to pay you even if you got a judgment in your favor. winning in court is one thing. getting your money is an entirely new animal.
Strip the rest of the car down and put it on bricks.
"OMG, my car was stolen!"
Yeah, that's a crappy idea... but you were riding around with no insurance so, it's not like you're against breaking the rules.
All joking aside, what are your monthly payments like? Maybe you can save some extra cash, and take out a small loan for the balance to get it fixed?

^not gonna work... there's a police report on the accident. They'll know he was driving.
Any family member who can help? Cut your loses & part out. Not much choices. Trying to fix that might be more trouble than it's worth, unless you have a friend who owns a shop.
