in cabin air filter quick question

hey guys just did my cabin air filter with the DIY vid.

just one question, i used a purolator and the arrows said "air flow" so i pointed them facing upwards... if you look at the picture you can see how i assumed the a/c flows

let me know if i was right! thanks!

The arrow should be pointing down. When you removed the old filter, you should've seen debris built-up on top of it.

instead of posting a new topic I'll ask here.. My a/c has a bad smell to it when I first start the car. Would changing the cabin filter help this at all?

You could "cheat" and get a good filter for the smell.
It would have to be ACTIVATED CARBON. The only thing is, the filter tends to be more expensive then the regular (particulate filter)
particulate filter only filter particles in the air.
Activate Carbon filters out smell/odors/fumes as well as particles.

I just bought an installed an active carbon filter, the air is soooo much better! Here's some info if you want to get one from the place I did:
This link should work to take you to the G35 in cabin filter( from Filter master company.):

Is it the same as the oem filters?

My understanding is that active carbon filters come stock on higher end nissan's .. However, the dealerships don't usually sell them.. They push the particulate filters (tends to be more commonly use for obvious reasons (cheaper then active carbon and not everyone's buying high end cars! )
...
As for replacing? I'm not too sure.. I'd assume they'd last longer then a particulate filter, however I could be wrong.. I suppose it depends on how long the carbon will last.. Which in turns depends on how bad the environment you live and the drive in is.. I'm sure if you live smack dead center of El Paso or Los Angeles, your filter will require replacing much sooner then say somewhere like Lake Tahoe where the air is alot cleaner from particles and pollution.
What your really getting is the added features that a particulate filter can't do (filter out odors, fumes and gases, etc..) in addition to the basic dirt and dust filtering.

if the evaporator core has mildew then changing just the filter wont help. coz i think the filter goes first then the evaporator core

dirty air -> filter ->air clear -> evaporator core -> sweat/mildew smell -> your cabin -> Y U
