Weird spring/clunking noise after going from ignition - drive - accelerate

Sorry if this question was asked before... tried searching few different forums around here and couldn't find anything that's exactly my problem.

This ONLY happens after a car has been in park for a short/long period of time. I notice it every morning while going to work and pretty much every other time I leave the car on park and off for a while.

So I start the car, back out of my garage and start driving forward, I hear this weird springing or metal clunk noise at the rear of my car. It almost sounds like I'm driving over a metal storm drain grill that's really losse.

It usually happens when I press the gas slightly and almost always about 10-15 yards in.

This happens when going from park, reverse, turn, drive, accelerate... or just straight park, drive, accelerate.

I don't sense any weird problems yet, other than the fact that the noise is very annoying.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Car is 07 Coupe 5AT.

Thanks.

You can get rid of it by applying special grease to the axle shaft splines and retorquing the axle nut.

Update on your noise please!

Hi, my car is brand new (less than 2,400 miles). I have the same issue. From what I'm reading, it's the ABS? Has everything been fine so far with your car? I've taken mine to two dealers and all they tell me is they can't duplicate the noise and don't know what it is. You'd think they'd know if this is the case.

Also, I sometimes get a clunking, other times get a spring (boing!) sound. Is that what you were experiencing? I'm not sure the clunking and spring are the same issue. Let me know what you've experienced. I greatly appreciate it as I've lost a lot of sleep over this.

Thanks!

Clunking noise is from the ABS check. The brakes check themselves (they pulse like they do in an emergency stop to keep the wheels from locking). It usually engages after about 10mph or so when you initially start moving the car after shifting out of park / starting your vehicle.

As for the awkward "boing!" noise, if it is happening at the exact same time as the ABS check, then it may be an issue with the brake system. If it happens at a different time it is almost certainly an unrelated issue.
