car battery problem

car battery problem

today i got oil changed at the dealer n asking info about car battery they charge 141 for the car battery and labor would of been $50 so being that im in a recession i thought id do it myself , so after i bought brand new one went home got the plastic pieces off and everything then i was tryin to get the little bolts loosin but it wouldnt and i noticed that they put some kind of yellowish light glazed of glue on both the neg. ang pos. so i was wondering if they did that on purpose so that they would change it...so my problem was that i couldnt get it loose no matter how hard i tried ...did anybody had problems >?

that stuff is there to prevent corrosion. the nut wont be frozen, just keep at it and dont strip it.

Use a little PB Blaster to loosen the nut. The goo on the terminals can be bought at an auto parts store or most hardware stores - you can get "CRC Dieletric grease":
