Painters tape on front of G?

I'm driving across the country soon and I've seen it before what looks like to be painters tape on the front end to protect it from rocks, stuff in the road.

Is it painters tape I see to protect the front? I don't want to buy a bra for the front as I'm driving across country to move so this is more like a one time type thing till I move of course.

Thanks.

I saw some say that when the rocks got through the paint, the chipped paint came off with it... Double layer the tape?

^ put a layer of duct tape over the blue painter's tape if you're really worried about this.

Is it very possible? Or could I just double layer it and it'll be pretty safe? I'll be doing a 2700 mile trip.

I put two layers of blue tape on a 600 mi trip and the tape came off. I recommend putting a Gorilla duct tape over it. It worked for me.

I use a single layer of painters tape and a layer of black duck tape. That works well but if you end up in the rain you may have to remove and re-apply.

I never understood why people do this. It's a car and if it gets some chips in the paint it's part of life. Unless it's a show car get in the thing and drive it.

i guess its as pointless as installing a bbk. stock brakes work fine, but people put them on even if they aren't going to the track. unless its a show car, get in the thing and drive it.

Ok, so I see people using the blue painters tape. Why not the lime green? From my experience, the green holds MUCH better. I haven't used it directly on the bumper fully, just parts of the hood for touch up paint and notice a big difference. The green came off without a problem, but I just want to verify, is it ok to use it or does it potentially cause the paint to peel or something?
