Red face Manual Shift Mode Question Please help

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2006 G35X.

When I am at highway speeds of 70 to 80 mph and move the shift lever from Automatic into Manual Shift Mode the transmission is in 4th gear. Is this normal? Why wouldn't it be in 5th gear when I move to Manual Shift Mode from Automatic?

Thank you for your help,

Joe

yes its normal. the car assumes you want to pass someone when you do that at highway speed so it downshifts right away.

Slightly off topic....

5AT tranny in the G35X: When cruising, if you just take your foot off the gas and the car begins to slow down without the brakes, it will still downshift through each of the gears.

Is it normal to feel noticeable lurch/engine braking each time the tranny downshifts (& the RPM jump up) as the car coasts to a stop?
