Trouble Starting, VDC OFF and SLIP lights won't turn off
This problem randomly came up 3 days ago. The car cranks for about 2 seconds before starting, and the VDC OFF and SLIP lights won't turn off. Once it's started though, it runs fine.
Two different places said it might be the crank or tb sensor that's making the car take so long to start, and that they don't think it's the starter or battery. The VDC and SLIP lights were sort of mysteries.
I don't want to take it to the dealership unless I have to, since it's so expensive. Any input is appreciated

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

VCD and slip light on, plus hard trouble starting usually indicates one of the crankshaft position sensors is going. Get a diagnostic run to see which one it is. Pretty common issue on our G's. I had one replaced at a nissan dealership 2 months ago for about $350. Same symptoms as yours, except my CEL was also on, plus I would get sporadic, infrequent hesitation when driving.

just to let you guys know, i've contributed my ranting to another forum post out there. Long story short, I have the VDC, Slip & Check Engine Light all on ('04 G35 Sedan). The dealer replaced the camshaft sensor (bank 2) and that didn't fix a thing. [The code was P0345]. The dealer said that my timing was advanced and stuck in a forward position and that the only way to fix it would be to get behind my engine to R&R that part....dealer cost ($2,800 - $3,200). I then went to PrecisionZ in the Valley and they did an engine flush for me and thought that might alleviate the issue....needless to say, back to square one. My vehicle stalls as it idles low, and it hesitates accelerating beyond 65mph. I really would be indebted to anyone with a FINITE answer for this problem....

I bet money it's the crank position sensor which seats on the side of your tranny. The sensor is pretty much a magnet that receives a signal every time your flywheel does a full rotation (which contributes to the motors timing). This is a very common problem in the 350z world, so much that Nissan put out a TBS for MY 03-04. It is a very easy sensor to change and the sensor its self will run you between $80-100. I suggest you visit my350z.com and search crank position sensor.
