Not hitting 60 in 2nd?

As I was taking my car for its weekly thrash on the on-ramp this morning, I noticed that I'm not hitting 60 mph in 2nd. Not even close. I'd say it's more like 58. Both the owner's manual and the Road&Track tech sheet suggest I should easily hit 60 in second. I've got an '03 6MT coupe with 75k miles. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Wheels are stock; tires are normal sizes.

I did buy the car used, but I have no reason to think any of the gearing would be anything other than what came from the factory.

Its normal. Are you shifting at 6500 or 6900? HR motors can reach 60 in second gear, for DEs its tougher.

6600. It occurred to me that I might be able to make it if I revved a little higher, but I tried that and hit the fuel cut.

i wouldnt push it past 6400 with a de motor. if its stock your power band drops off after that...if not before that. keep it in the sweet spot!

WOW! These cars can do 60 in 2nd gear? Is that hard on the engine? Can the Engine deal w/ that? Or just once in a blue moon?
