ABS/slip/VDC off lights on ('06 MT)

Hey guys - hope this is the right place for this:

I know there are tonnes of threads about these lights coming on, but I can't seem to find any that match my exact scenario. Any help would be appreciated - I am not super mechanically inclined myself so most work if difficult would be taken to a shop which ads to the cost... so any advice that might save me a bit of cash would be great!

As mentioned, ABS, slip and VDC off lights are all on. I've only had the car for a few months now, when I bought it VDC off and Slip lights were on. I just assumed this was normal, as I figured VDC would flash or say 'on' when engaged. Anyway, I cannot manage to get traction control to turn on, despite hard launches (yes I've tried toggling the switch on the left). The ABS light turned on recently. It is note worthy that I also recently replaced the rotors and pads myself, so the issue certainly isn't having low pad life. When I start the car I always have my foot on the brake, and now you feel the brake pedal adjust shortly after starting the car. When I drive off, the first use of the brake pedal under moderate pressure will make the ABS kick in rapidly (or at least some buzzing/shaking noise from up front and in the pedal) when it definitely shouldn't be - smooth surfaces, at low (10kph) speeds). The ABS light then comes on. After this initial kick in of the ABS, the car drives 100% smoothly after that. But again, traction control doesn't ever turn on and I've tried some harder stops and the ABS does not kick in (nor does it seem powerful enough to lock the wheels).

I took it into a shop and they did some diagnostics for me but they didn't have any solid answers. I could book in more time with them to try and figure out if it really is the (really) expensive stuff that needs replacing, or if it's something else. Here are the codes:

C1141 - Yaw rate malfunction
C1142 - Pressure sensor
P0507 - Idle air control

I'm told it could be the thousands to fix, mainly in parts. I wonder if I even care about ABS/VDC as I am used to driving Canadian winters without them (I had an S13 before), but am also worried that not fixing it may cause other future issues. After doing some research I've had a look at my brake fluid levels, and rather than them being below min, they were considerably above max, so I sucked some out of the reservoir and it hasn't changed anything. I've also heard some of the pumps Nissan only sells as a single unit with the sensors, but a sensor alone could be obtained?

I am running the 19'' oem rims with the TPS still installed, if that matters. Car is bone stock. Oh and now my cruise 'set' light flashes whenever I turn cruise on - but really I don't care too much about that, the other stuff is way more important to me!

Help!! Thanks. I know I have to pay to play, but it would be great if there were any cheaper solutions out there!

Ok so I may have fixed the ABS? I replaced a 10A 'Stop lamp' fuse that was burnt out by the clutch, and also removed and reinserted the ABS 'box' fuses up top by the battery. The car no longer makes an awkward movement of the brake pedal when starting nor does it seem to kick in under light braking. ABS light does not come on now. Even under heavy braking the ABS doesn't seem to kick in though, mind you under ideal road conditions (dry, no gravel). Can someone confirm that the 'stop lamp' was it, and my super nintendo 'blow at it to clean it' technique on the box type fuses by the battery wasn't it?

VDC still does not seem to engage. Also, being an '06 coupe, I can only find two fuse boxes. One by the foot, one in FRONT of the battery instead of beside/behind it. Older G's have 3 fuse boxes from what I understand?

If your lights are still on you may have a bad speed sensor, I've heard that can cause the lights to come on. Is your car going into limp mode?

Hey thanks for the reply. Lights are all still on, but the car drives fine. Found out that the red 10 stop lamp fuse by the clutch keeps popping as soon as I apply the brakes, thus killing ABS...

And now my cruise control works?

Did you make sure your brake fluid reservoir is full...?

Yes I did, thanks though. Just had an RJM clutch pedal, Fidanza flywheel and Exedy clutch installed. Had my mechanic look at this issue while he was at it today. Turns out I need a new ABS control module - at least I think that was the name. I wrote down the name/part number but left it at work. Anyway, Canadian dealers want $2300 for it!! Apparently American dealers 'only' want $1300ish for it?

I'm hoping I can find a low mileage used one...

As a side note..I bought my car and had the same lights on same problems. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Took it into my shop and replaced an inner tie rod that needed changed. Did an alignment on it and reset the steering angle sensor. Drives perfect lights never on. Check that before you go spending a bunch of money. Maybe someone did an alignment before you bought it and didn't reset it like mine

I'm hoping that's the case, that would be amazing! Thanks for the tip. The car does have rather new tires on it...

Does the steering angle sensor need to be reset via the OBD port or do you just reconnect the sensor or something? Sorry, never dealt with such a thing before.

Yes the steering angle sensor needs reset via scanner that has the software capable of doing so. You are going to have to go into a reputable shop or dealer that has the right equipment

Just thought I'd update this thread in case anyone is having similar issues. So the stop lamp fuse kept blowing so I just left it and lived with the messed up ABS. I replaced the ABS control module under the hood with a used unit, and it cleared 2/3 codes. ABS still did not work. I needed to replace one more unit under the center console but managed to find just the Bosch sensor rather than the whole unit. I have yet to install this.

Anyway it didn't occur to me until someone flagged me down on the road that I had no brake lights (stop lamp fuse = brake lights, duh)! I stopped driving the car during the night time because of this, and only during the day if I had absolutely no other choice. Anyway, winter came and the battery died, so I replaced the battery and a lot of things work now??

- I replaced the stop lamp fuse with the battery and now my brake lights work, and so does my ABS!
- the glove box lights now work!
- the cruise control works!

Update: my ABS and brake lights went out again! I installed a new brake pressure sensor and it fixed it for a short while, then it died again. I then replaced the brake switch, and everything worked again for a while. Now if I so much as stick a new fuse in, it instantly blows - but only sometimes. Other times I have to touch the brake and then it blows.

I checked my rear ground by the tails and it appears to be fine. It also appears that the '06 model does not have a tail lamp fuse by the battery, only the stop lamp fuse by the clutch.

Anything else I can check? Brake fluid is fine. Might have to bring this one to Nissan...

Update: FIXED!!!

I finally cracked and brought it to Infiniti. $300 CDN later, they tell me that they THINK it is the yaw sensor, which would cost me another $1300 + $200 installation. After reading their notes, it said the continuity tests were good but the yaw sensor sent no signal. They also said there was no point in buying a used sensor, as they are unique to each VIN, and that if an airbag deployed, it was gong to be dead anyway.

I took a chance and bought a used one on ebay for $70 CDN, installed it myself in about 20 minutes, and everything is golden for the first time since owning the car. No slip, or vdc off lights. Just in time for winter.

The ABS problem I have narrowed down to one of my tail lights, which has a crack in it, and also some fogging at the reverse light. When the ABS light comes on (it hasn't in a very long time now), I just disconnect that suspected culprit tail light (only takes a minute), stick in a new fuse, reconnect it, and all is well again.

Hope this helps out whoever is reading this. And of course now my drl/fogs don't work.
