Weird Parking Problem
Weird Parking Problem
So I just recently purchased a used 07 G35 Coupe.
Original owner had installed/replaced the OEM shift **** with some after market one, I think Razo RA89 Quick shift one.
The problem I have is that when I put the car into park, it doesn't completely go all the way into park, locking the ignition/key **** at 1 and not allowing me to turn it all the way to 0. The only way I can get it to turn off is by pushing the shift **** up a little, and making the **** "click", which I assume is essentially putting it all the way into Park and allowing me to shut off my car.
I recorded a crappy video on my phone to try to help better illustrate what I'm talking about, and even took off the **** (which slides right off) to show what is happening to the little blue plastic part while I try to put it in park. It looks like when I press it down to put it into park, it doesn't pop back up when I let it go, making me have to push it to make it pop back up.
Thinking that if I went back to the OEM **** it would eliminate this little nuisance. What do you guys think?

Yeah I was thinking that that's the reason why it's doing this as well.
I'm new to G, but can you tell if all he did was just change the actual ****? Or is there something more to blue piece doesn't "unclick" by itself

"I changed the ****. If you try to put it in park and it doesn't turn off, all you have to do is push it up a little so it clicks."
But.. it's a bit annoying.
I'm guessing that the best thing to do is to lift up the center console and shift boot and see if something is wrong. But I'm a G newbie lol.
You might want to pull off the boot and look at things. There is supposed to be a little red indicator which follows the selector just to the right of P, R, N & D. I can't see it in your vid. It's part of the boot piece and you have to "line it up" when you snap it back together. Maybe it's hung up somehow? Just an idea.

As Frankie pointed out.. if it's still doing that with the **** off I don't know what good simply changing ***** back to OEM will do.

Here is the drawing of the original **** and retaining clip and how the center console piece is held in place in case you want to pull the boot off for a look. By the way your service manuals are here:

There is a linkage adjustment down below - from the bottom of the lever to the tranny - but it would seem unlikely that your issue would involve that. I am NO mechanic, others here would know better.

Okay so I just got the oem shift **** from the original owner.. and I shouldn't have to open it up to install it right?
I think I'm missing like a silver ring that goes on the bottom of the shift ****..

Because I can't really get it to fit flush with none of that ugly plastic showing.
EDIT: Just called Infiniti and they don't even sell that silver ring I'm talking about by itself.. they said I'd have to get a whole new **** lol. Think I might just try to make my own or something.
I figured out why the car had that "parking problem." It was because with that Razo ****, the boot wasn't really "attached" to the ****, and so that opening of the boot where it has that plastic circle was sinked in really low and when I would put it into park it would get in the way.

It took me many times to take off the Razo and put it back on to get it to work right. for me, I had to cut a little bit of the blue plastic.
BTW in your picture, you have the original on backwards... I think
Look in our market place, some times you might find a used **** to buy...

I'm doing more research and I think that silver piece was actually part of the boot. Original owner says he took off that piece to make room from the Razo ****.
I've seen pics where the Razo **** fits perfectly, and the boot is "attached" and doesn't sink down and get in the way of the gears. So I think I may try to figure out how to get the boot to work with the ****, or get a new boot to try to get it to work with the OEM ****. Do you got any tips on how you got your Razo **** to work? Or can you post pics. I'll go take some right now of it mine is.
And yeah in that pic it is backwards

Anyone know how to get the boot to "attach" to the Razo ****?

I'm going back to the OEM ****. Had to reorder a new boot though because the original owner of the car cut off the silver tip on the boot that clips/covers the to the bottom of the OEM **** covering the white plastic.
