Jumping A/C High Pressure Switch
Jumping A/C High Pressure Switch
First post to the forum any help would be appreciated thank you, So this is my 4th G35..Love the cars and their easy to work on. I've kind of hit a wall though..I bought this one for my fiancee and she told me the A/C stopped blowing cold, yes still using A/C in December fricking Texas..Anyway compressor isn't cycling on, control panel works fines, just blows hot air. Clutch isn't locked up so I was going to attempt jumping the A/C switch. I have a R-134 gauges to charge the A/C but can't get to compressor to cycle on to check pressure readings..
The A/C switch is a 3 prong connector though, what is the right way to jump to get the compressor to turn on ? Anyone else run into this.. Thanks guys

i personally have never had a problem with my AC in the G, but on my vette the compressor wont turn on unless it has a min amount of pressure in the lines. i have had to add almost half a bottle of R-134 to even to get the compressor to turn on. but i have a leak in my system ( and i am just "bandaid -ing" it cause i dont want to fix it. which will cost more money in the long run but that is another story.) someone will have more insight.
Verifying it's full of Freon is the problem, if I can't get the compressor the engage I'll have no reading on the low side or the high side, If I throw a compressor at it and the pressure switch is actually the failed component then I wasted a lot of money. That's why I need to know how to jump the switch the verify the problem, but I don't know the correct procedure on our 3 prong connector most are just two.
We have a lot of cars come in the shop where the clutch doesn't engage and they have always been compressor problems. 07-up sedans are the worst for this problem but have seen my fair share on V35 models as well. Hope this helps
If you already have the gauges, what does it read without the compressor on? The system will equalize when the compressor is off. I forget what it should be, but I want to say like 40psi? Then when the compressor is on is when you can get a high/low reading. If the pressure is below a certain amount, the compressor will not cycle on. On my BMW, I had a leak earlier this year and the compressor wouldn't cut on. Thought the compressor was bad, but I checked the pressure and it read like 10psi, put in some refrigerant and the compressor kicked on no issues. Of course I then had to fix the leak.
It won't kick on to take the refrigerant, even if I jump or power the compressor. Readings without the compressor on are invalid as to what is actually malfunction, if your compressor works it should always take the Freon if jumped..Infiniti dude thanks for the info bc even when I powered the compressor it still wouldn't kick on, so the compressor must be bad. Thank you
