should I only use a Nissan radiator cap?

Dude, i had some coolant under my car today. Opened the hood, heard a hiss, pressed down on the radiator cap and it stopped. Bad cap, right? Went to O'Reilly and got whatever brand they carry, put it on and now same shib. Still hissing. I changed to a screw clamp on the upper radiator hose (that's where it was leaking) so its not leaking anymore, but still got steam and hissing from the cap. Is that one of those parts that I should keep OEM?

Might sound stupid, but are you sure it's latching correctly on the neck of the radiator? Have done that myself a few times...

Yeah, I'm sure, but it had very little spring resistance when I put it on.

What do you mean tho? Just so I can eliminate that as a cause. Is there more than one way to put it on?

I had this problem after my radiator was changed and the shop put aftermarket cap instead of OEM nissan cap. Problem was solved after OEM cap was purchased and installed.

Holy, ****, man. Worst day ever. Overheated on the way to work, had to call out. Pressure tested the car and the radiator is cracked. Just pulled the radiator (kind of a b!tch) now waiting for CarQuest to call about the new one they got me. And on top of that, my hazards killed my battery. Tested it and it was fried. Had to get a new one of those too. Jesus..

Yikes! It's the little things sometimes. Good to know you weren't injured or anything when it did fail.
