Quick Question on Dealer Tune-Up
I bought my 06 G35X used in 2011 with 72k miles, but was lucky enough that both previous owners went to an infiniti dealership for maintenance (different states) so I was able to get a print out of all work done to the car basically from day 1.
I dont have the page with me now so I am going off memory here, but I believe it was at 60,000 miles that there was a line item for "Complete Tune-Up." Are any Infiniti techs here able to comment on what all is included with that? The biggest thing I am wondering on is if it includes changing the spark plugs. I would think that it does given the description, but at the same time 60k seems early, unless its under the performance schedule or whatever the name is for the one that is super cautious and changes fluids and everything very regularly.
Im at 96k now and basically just trying to see if I need to plan for plugs in the next 10k or not. I know I have seen seperate line items for changes to differential fluid, transfer case, transmission, brake, etc over time so I can more easily gauge if those are going to be needed soon or not, but spark plugs is my biggest unknown.
I moved about a year ago and now only have a Nissan dealer close by so I have gone there for basic oil changes, they brought up the spark plug change and mentioned they remove the upper plenum to change them out. I have a spacer so I'd hate to have them mess with it and I would probably have to get a new gasket from motordyne instead of whatever Nissan one they would normally use, unless I can reuse this one since it wasnt on for too crazy long? Otherwise would it be worth asking if they can do it without removing the plenum? I know i've seen a DIY or something where its a tight fit, but doable, not sure if they would go for it though.
Hopefully the plugs were indeed changed at 60k and then I would be good for a fresh 100k from that point or how many miles?

At 60k they most likely changed all fluids, filters, and wiper blades. Every 30k all fluids should be changed. Infiniti calls for plugs to be changed at 105k, so odds are they haven't been done. I would do those now because I changed mine at 87k and a couple of them were in bad shape.
Also the plenum does not need to be removed, that is crazy. The only things that need removed is the engine cover, intake tube, and you loosen the wiring harness. Its really not that hard, altough the passenger side is a little bit tight. I would do it myself or take it to another shop.

Alright thanks, I can at least verify with them if they can do it without removing the plenum, perhaps they only wanted to do that to replace the stock gasket if it wasnt modded, I do recall him mentioning doing the gasket too.
I am considering doing it myself, but recall someone I knew being told once that its best for the shop to do in case they are stuck in there and if I do it and break something its on me, but if they break something, then they are liable to fix it. I understand its a high chance to be marketing to pay them money for the job, but it also does make some sense after sitting there for 100k miles.
Maybe they or I can remove the easiest one on the driver side and look at it to get an idea what condition they are in?

The dealer is only saying the gasket needs replaced is because in the factory service manual it says to replace it after every dis-assembly of the plenum. Just replace them regardless of condition, your almost at 105k anyways and believe me they really don't last 105k most of the time.

Heh alright thanks guys, ya i did the plenum spacer (which included the motordyne gasket) only like a year ago or so, so I guess around 85000 miles, not sure if the one i took off was original or not, but I know this one will last a fair bit of time still.
Kinda scary when Nissan tells you they need to remove the plenum to install plugs! Sounds like a service adviser that's talking out is blowhole!
With that kinda mileage on your G I'd have them drain & fill all fluids and install plugs! Nothing makes our cars last longer than following a maintenance schedule. I change my oil/filter three times a year even though I never put enough miles on my coupe to warrant the changes!

According to old service records, it had most of the fluids changes early on. Transfer Case Service, Front/Rear Differential Service, Transmission Flush, and Coolant Flush all at 66,000 (along with that Complete Tune-Up). I did a Power Steering Flush at 79k and Brake Fluid Flush at 83k.
So now all i need fluid wise is another Engine Coolant Flush since I made it to another 30k milestone.
