Plastic underbody engine shroud

Driving home yesterday and heard some nasty scrapping when braking and turning. Thought my pads were shot and I was getting metal on rotor but to my relief I found that the engine cover shroud cracked and was dragging along the ground. My question is what do you guys think the dealer might charge to replace? I see that they are $100 online. I am handy enough but most of the remaining screws looked pretty beat up from years of salt and snow and honestly I don't wanna spend 3+ hours taking off all the bolts. Right now I have some zip ties doing the heavy lifting... 😓

The purpose of the under body shroud is to keep crud out of your engine. The cleaner your engine the longer those expensive sensors will last! Next time you get an oil change have them replace all those wasted bolts holding up the shroud. If the shroud is destroyed and find one at a reasonable price!

What Gary said, use the factory punch Bolts to fix it. No use wasting money on a new one.

Thanks all. The shroud is crack in several spots including around the bolts, it's unsalvagable. Just looking for an idea of replacement cost and labor. I got an 19 month old and another in about 2months so my time for doing this crap isisnt really there anymore

I think the dealer will charge like 300 bucks for a new one. I had them put on one a few years ago and the same thing happened. I know there is a member here who makes one out of metal.

Gary,

I know they're $100 new from rock auto parts, it's the time issue.....

Maybe I'll stick with the zip ties for now and wait until I have some time

If you have good rapport with your service advisor, get one of the aluminum ones in the marketplace and have them install it. The service techs will love you at every oil change going forward since the aftermarket shrouds have an access door for the oil filter. Techs won't have to take the whole shroud off every time. $70 more than plastic and you get metal's durability.

I just took mine off and never worried about it. I've driven plenty of other cars without engine undersheilds without issues.

Just get a 10mm socket and remove the bolts and take it off. If you want to replace it, buy one off rockauto.com and replace it whenever you get a chance. Just save the 10mm bolts.

I've had mine off for almost 2 years. So much easier to do oil changes, and visually inspect for leaks. I've notices no difference in how clean or dirty the engine is, and have even driven through snow like that. No excessive corrosion and not much has changes since when I had it on.

Now before anyone jumps on me, I'm not advocating leaving it off. But you can drive the car for a while without one if time is a burden here. No reason to run to the dealership and have them pork you in the rear over this. Just remove the cover and fix it when it's convienent to you.
