Couple Quick Questions HELP!!! - 05 IP Coupe
Hey guys,
Had a couple of questions regarding proper shifting
Shifting. I feel great about everything except first. I feel when I drive more aggressive, I shift better. I generally try to shift every time at around 3k rpm (through all gears 1-6).. if I'm having more fun, 4 - 4.5k. Sometimes I do however, feel a slight stutter.
.
1. Do you have to hold the clutch allll the way down to the floor every time you shift? The engagement point seems very high for this clutch, almost when it's fully released (basically far away from the floor)
2. How long (in seconds) do you release the clutch. It feels like 1.5 seconds for me, sometimes more sometimes less. I find if I gas it a little bit more aggressive the RPM's fall in line as the clutch comes out. I think this is the key..
3. My car just hit 70k miles on it. The previous owner I got it from drove it for 5 years and only put 2,000 miles on it. I'm going to the local infiniti dealer this weekend and picking up every single service record done on it. With that being said, at 70k miles what should I look out for? I hear a slight 'CHHHHHH' sound when I press the clutch down. I also did have, but maybe didn't push the shifter hard enough-- but it felt like I couldn't move it out of neutral, was going at a slow crawl speed trying to shift into 1st, or even 2nd.
4. I'm looking to get auxilary working on this car ASAP as I need my jams. Any quick solutions? I'm shocked that we don't have AUX.
Thank you very much for any insight/answers/input -- it's much appreciated!

on my 04 I had to take a little time to learn how to shift it, and even still I let the clutch out too late sometime. I literally can't feel when the clutch engages/disengages, It the same amount of pressure all the way to the floor. I basically memorize where the sweet spot it, which is in the middle. It's not loose by any means though. I almost always let it rev up to 3k before I shift, but that's cuz she sounds sexy. You can do fairly quick shifts with the oem shifter. Its got a decent amount of throw. I usually only take a second or less to change gears fully. I'm always at ideal rpm, or maybe a tad bit ahead of it. I'm trying to understand what you mean by it stuttering in first. Like, is the clutch not fully engaging or what? Also the only time my clutch touches the floor is when I'm going into reverse, and when I start the car. Once it's in halfway the clutch is fully disengaged, and it's just wasted energy. I'm pretty sure you can adjust the clutch pedal though, Haven't looked into it. Scratch that, I just found this online, and It should work with us too. I'll have to try this tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah. I don't like where it engages at all. And yeah, I've just been too timid and not giving it enough gas, I find when I rev it higher, and I shift it-- it's smoother.
When you say once it's in halfway the clutch is fully disengaged and it's just wasted energy.. what do you mean? I push the clutch all the way to the floor every time I shift. You are basically saying that I just need to go about halfway to the floor (past the engagement point and that's fine enough?) Thanks. And let me know how that clutch pedal adjustment works!!
what I mean is by the time I pressed the pedal down halfway, I could shift, so the rest of the movement was un-needed. I did the adjustment in like 2 minutes and now it's great. I have it set so the clutch is fully disengaged about an inch from the floor, and now I can really feel when I'm about the disengage the clutch through the pedal. No more guess work to find the "Sweet spot". Plus I can shift it faster since I know exactly where I need to be on the pedal.
