When I bought my G the magnet prices that usually go where you see the gold object where gone. So my center console had the problem of staying open all the time with no way to shut it. I thought about Velcro but I didn't want to have the noise when opening the Console. So I thought for a minute and with 2 small screws and a perfect size picture frame wall holder the magnets on the top now connect perfectly and allow the console to shut and is very secure.
I was going to make a DIY and post it but it won't let me post on there. Figured this may help anyone who has a broken center console like mine.

Awesome job, that's thinking outside the box.

I’m having the same problem right now with my G and can’t find the part anywhere. If you want to buy the entire mid console you can only get it through the dealership and is $475. Stupid expensive when all I need is this metal piece. This is great man. Trying it myself.

A thin piece of fabric glued over the metal plate cutout will cover it up and give it a much nicer appearance too.

no glue needed when fitted correctly. it takes a little patience to get it right. Picture hanger bought from Walmart.

thanks for this! i just went with two small strips of metal epoxied in the spots where the old ones were. if it doesn't hold, i'm screwing in a picture hanger and covering it with a nice piece of material.
