No Automatic Rev Matching
No Automatic Rev Matching
Hello, I have an 03 G35 and it is an automatic. I’ve heard that 03’s and 04’s do not have automatic rev matching. I tried it for myself and can confirm that it has no automatic rev matching, it just dumps the clutch. Is there any way I can somehow manually rev match or bypass the clutch from dumping itself?
I've been able to 'blip' the throttle slightly when downshifting my '04.
I have the Works Bell column shift kit on my G, and since I've installed it I've learned to tap the downshift paddle and then lightly tap the accelerator.
Downshifting to 2nd gear seems to be rough almost no matter what, so I just shift to 2nd when the revs are below 1500 rpm.

You would need to handle engine rpm with the gas pedal, the 2005+ rev matching engine control is handled through the ECM. Just blip the gas when you're downshifting.
However it's not going to hurt an auto tranny, it's not "dumping a clutch" because there's a torque converter in the middle designed specifically to handle these shaft speed differences.
