Power Window Switch (Smart Switch) Questions

2003 G35 Coupe

Quick question. Probably a long answer if anybody has one. Has anybody reverse-engineered, or just deleted the smart switch for the power windows?

Both my driver and passenger side switches are bad. Motors run up and down just fine. Ordered a driver's side switch for about $30.00 (hoping it works), but can't find a source for the passenger side that doesn't cost me a few hundred dollars.

I've deleted the door panels anyway and replaced them with LRB aluminum panels, so I'm pretty open to anything that works. Deleting and just building an analog switch as a brute force option is fairly straightforward, but won't be able to control the encoder at that point, and more importantly the auto down/up (that 1" or so) feature when opening and closing the door would be lost.

Being careful when opening and closing the doors is not really an option as I won't always be present to scream at people to be gentle.

The amount of people that have issues with these power windows is pretty large so I'm hoping somebody may have come up with an elegant solution that eliminates the Nissan switch while retaining the minimum and important features.

Yeah, both the main switch in the driver's door and the secondary switch on the passenger's side have CPUs in them. They're both "black boxes" with processors in them which I believe are responsible for the features that you mention. With such specific custom chips I can't imagine anybody being able to reverse engineer a rig that could do what they do. But I imagine these same systems are used in most Infiniti and Nissan cars, possibly even by other auto manufacturers. So it might be possible to find a usable replacement elsewhere. It would just take some research.

Yeah, I was hoping somebody has found a solution like you mentioned from another vehicle. The "CPU" is relatively straightforward it would seem which is why you can find replacements for $30'ish. Luckily my Amazon purchase seems to be working. Haven't gotten the auto down/up when opening and closing the door yet, but I'm not going to worry just yet because I have to keep disconnecting the battery anyway. But if I could eliminate the black box altogether, I sure wouldn't mind.

I'm more or less gutting most of the car anyway and don't need the fancy features, but I also don't want shattered glass.
