Test Pipe Question

Ok so I am planning on either buying a kinetix or labree resognated test pipe. Do you think that it will look like a cat because of the resognator? I know it's illegal but I heard some guys take off the cat cover and put it on a test pipe to make it look like it's still there. I was planning to do this.

And what is a 02 bunge or something like that.......

It wouldnt really matter. If you know vehicles....you can tell by the sound that there are no cats in a car. Also by the smell of the high unburnt gas content in the exhaust.

The O2 bung hole is a port where the O2 sensors connect to. Those sensors monitor the O2 levels and adjust the engines timing and such to adjust for the low or high gas content in the spent fumes.

Depending on the year of the car, the CEL will illuminate because of the high gas content in the exhaust. You might need to do that mount adjustment to "trick" that sensor.

so if I were to go in for recon it wouldn't pass right? well i'll just put it on after i get a recon when i get my body kit. I have a 06 will the CEL light up? I don't know of the trick. I tried searching but it never really says how to do it. Something about a spark plug or something?

correct. you wouldn't pass recon with it. you would also fail safety check. yes, your cel will light up on the '06. go to sonics and tell them to take care of it. usually known as the simulator.

it's a spark plug non-fouler. you need to drill it out and install it between the pipe and O2 sensor. pm if you need a set. I bought a couple when I did mine so I have an extra set collecting dust.

IMO, test pipes suck. I have'm installed on mines, I'm just to lazy to change them out.

I second that! I have them installed on my 05 as well. I have the APS one's with the brackets.....and my check engine light is on. Maybe you should consider buying high flow cats instead. I've invested enough time and money on test pipes that would have paid for a nice pair of high flow cats by now.

You dont need recon for saftey check unless it's a suspension mod, then a saftey inspection station may request recon. I should know, I was worried about my test pipes at first, but even in the recon books, it doesnt specify the need for recon with exhaust for safety. What saftey inspection places might check is whether or not the exhaust system is too loud.

well I do have suspension mod but it's such a small drop noone notices. It's only about an inch drop. I just wanted to know if I would get caught with it if I go for recon when i get my body kit

I'm also wondering if the kuruma Z front bumper, kenstyle sides and rear bumper will pass recon? I'm pretty sure veilside type 1 wings wont pass.

** senjen posting from rev-01's ps **

it's good to know that safety check doesn't check for exhaust smells/test pipes.

gwasabi:
from what i was told this morning: kuruma z, kenstyle sides/rear will pass recon so long as the quality of the fitment is good. as long as nothing is removed behind the bumper (e.g. "small" metal bar!!), you're good to go. however, you need to mount the front license plate on the kuruma z. as for the rear, as long as the support on the rear isn't removed, you're good to go.

I feel like a newb asking these questions sory. I don't really know alot about this. I have asked around and I have searched but I get different things everytime.

Thanks for all the help. I'll be at the sunday cruise so I might ask for some pointers then.
