As a newbie; I'm going to lift the rear wheels today and play spin the wheels, any other proper way to check vlsd status? Mahalo.

do a burnout, see if there's two strips of rubber.
seriously.

the easiest way is to put the car in neutral (not in gear for manual), parking brake off and jack up one side of the car with one wheel off the ground and the other still on the ground. Spin the wheel by hand, it should have a fairly high resistance to moving. This test gives you a indication of how well it works, there's specific torque numbers for how much resistance but I don't know them off hand. It will slip and move but not easily. If you lift the entire rear off the ground and spin the rear wheel by hand, the other should spin in the same direction, but this won't tell you the condition of the diff, only that you have LSD.
Of couse the fun way is to lay some rubber down and check the tracks if they are equal.

Errrr....being that it is a viscous LSD....then the left wheel will not lockup until it has had time to heat up the liquid goo in the differential to create the lock correct? Technically until the goo heats up...its an open differential right?
Therefore...only way to really test a VLSD is to make tracks on the ground and see if there are 2 tire marks. I would assume maybe a foot or so of the right side then both as the left side locks up.
More importantly though....is why do you need to test the VLSD? There is no way that you could have burned that thing out yet. I have over 63 thousand miles with drag and SCCA miles in there and only now mine is beginning to fail. Burning the clutch should not affect the differential.

On the bright side...considering that it was one of the first editions.....its holding up pretty good. Just need to really get working on it now. Money keeps on getting diverted as soon as I have enough to start a project.
