Damn is it that bad for a modified car in Hawaii? I thought being here in SoCal was bad enough. The tickets I'm not really worried about because I don't do stupid things in my car with cops around. The clear corners have amber bulbs and my overlays only cover up what is not lighted. I'll post pics after our big cruise this weekend. I'm just concerned with the dust situation and salt air is it that much out there to clean your filter so often?

it's the dust on base. the salt air aint a problem at all. however, if the water is crazy choppy, then the salt air will be a problem. that never happens though.

the roads on base are s.hitty too. uneven like a mothereffer, and there are always puddles/water/construction.

Not too sure about the clears. I mean, most safety check stations will not pass you if you have clears. I think that would reflect DOT issues as well. Places like my Dad's shop would have prep some of the traded in cars and remove/replace anything that isnt DOT appv'd before they get on the used car sales lot. maybe if you have recon and spec out the clears, then maybe you'll become exempt if they accept the clears.

reason is, my brother's old gsr had the jdm front end (DTR bought the car afterwards, jensen knows this car all too well). My brother could not get our own Dad to pass the car for safety...nothing on the front end was marked DOT and didnt list those SAE numbers. Then he took the car for Recon, passed (with rollbars I might add), and got our Dad to pass the car's saftey. That's why I think recon is easy to pass - if my brother's old car could pass then anyone can pass.

I saw some bike officers pulling people over near the Kalihi St overpass yesterday afternoon Diamond Head bound. I think they were mostly hitting up the guys who were cutting people off by running up the right lane (the Likelike offramp).

........but right when I passed by they signalled a high rider truck to pull over. Seeing as we were doing 5 mph, they had to be hitting him up for recon on his raised truck and tires outside of the fender wells.

Waikiki

Hello, I work in Waikiki and I have to drive thru that gauntlet everyday! I recently got pulled over on saratoga by the infamous officer Hunt! He is famous for tagging imports. He tagged me for clear corners and overlays. The fine was $57.00 not bad for the horror stories I've heard from everyone else who had run ins with him. He also warned me for eyelids and blue bulbs? I changed my bulbs to amber & left the clear lens. I feel lucky for he could of tagged me for no recon, tints. He tagged people with tints for all windows, resulting in fines up to $600. If you get ticketed by him, He WILL show up at court. Most of the judges are tired of his antics.Stay out of Waikiki if possible! They are everywhere!

I use to drive a 99 Accord coupe with body kit, rims, drop, rear lifted carbon fiber hood, spoiler. I would get ticketed like crazy. I can't even count the number of tickets I recieved for stupid things like tint too dark, no front licence(spelling err) plate displayed, no recon, then they would tell me about all the stuff I did to my car and about how I could get a ticket for it all. Wouldn't a no -recon ticket cover it all. Why do Waikiki cops hate?? My G doesn't have a front plate but the car is all stock. No tickets since I sold my Honda though.
