Recon Question - Raise Front Plate

Question for those of you with Recon... My sedan did not pass due to the front plate being only 11" from the ground (regulation is 12"). The guy there said I could use brackets or other methods to raise the plate 1" (as long as it is fastened). How did you pass (assuming the coupe's plate is at a similar height to that of the sedan)?

BTW - I only have a 1" drop (Eibach w/ Tokicos).

Thanks in Advance!

I don't know much about recon, but do you have to mount the plate on the front? Can you simply put the plate in your front winshield so that it's visible?

Just thinking out loud.

12 inch from what part of the plate? from the bottom? if so that crazy, I don't even think stock coupe can meet that requirement.

Yeah, it's 12" from the bottom of the plate. If you have a license plate cover, they may ask for even more... As for the coupe, I'm pretty sure you need brackets as well. The stock sedan is just at 12", so I'm fairly certain the stock coupe is around 11 1/2".

Build some brackets. I used sheet metal from pipe fittings (it's a u-shaped bolt, with nuts on both ends and flat sheet metal connecting the ends of the u). I used this since the brackets I found at Home Depot didn't have big enough holes for license plate bolts. Also, I didn't have a means of cutting or punching holes in metal. My brackets ended up looking like a weird "s". It was okay looking, but more importantly, it worked and I passed recon.

^did they bounce your suspension? i remember not passing w/ my 240 cuz i had coilovers that were stiff. needs to have one inch travel up and one inch travel down...two inch play total. so i got tein springs, went back and passed... then put the coilovers back in. .

Honestly I'm not sure. The guy had me sit on a bench to fill out the recon forms. My back was faced to him and by the time I finished the forms, he was already sitting on the bench.

The only reason I may say no is that my car was a little dirty that day (after the rains - around the time of the earthquake) and I didn't see any hand prints.

Sorry I couldn't be of additional help.
