Turbo or Supercharged?

Which one would give our VQ engine the most power output: Turbo charged or Supercharged? Which one you think would give the car faster acceleration? Finally, which is the cheapest way to go to obtain more horse and torque?

Basically Turbo is for higher end power and super is for lower end power meaning turbo will give you more HP but Super is more likely to give you more tourque (accel)
I read alot about the stillen super charger on the boards. I honestly don't know because I don't own one and I know **** about FI lol but from the looks of it, that twin turbo from JWT sounds like its gonna kick ***. I'm waiting for that. Also I might just wait for the VQ35HR and somehow get my hands on one and hopefully I can transplant it hehehe

don't listen to me though I don't know what I'm tlkaing about lol

seems like most of the mags are doing the vortech supercharger on their VQ engines...don't know if you should follow though, just an observation.

Most Power = Turbo
faster acceleration = Can be both
cheapest way to go = SC

Ok before talking about maxing power and what not you should consider that our rods are weak. Our cars are not built for boost. So when you add a turbo or supercharger just be prepared to do a rebuild. It may or may not happen but after doing some research on the boards going boost and not being prepared is gonna be very costly. Also if you go with a stillen supercharger you have to get the hood cowl, and some vortechs with the idle rattle sounds horrible. Which is why I'm gonna go tt.

As stated above the supercharger will give you more torque which equals more acceleration, at first. The turbo will give you more power and also gives you the acceleration but after the turbo spools up. The acceleration is more abrupt with a turbo as well. Our rods are our weak point but as long as you're staying with the stock psi for the kit and you have a good tune you will be fine. Gauges are not required but after spending $5k or more on a kit what's another few hundred to monitor your engine. They can also save you from having really big problems.

Superchargers are a little cheaper but nothing dealing with an FI car is cheap.

stillen supercharger kits go for around $5,500, and is really easy to install compared to a turbo kit.

single turbo kits go between $4,400- $7000+ depending what size turbo, brand of kit, and type of intercooler (if any). The install price will be way up there compared to a supercharger kit.

twin turbo kits (arp) i saw for $5,400 on raceinspired.com, but i called Vakamon for the install price, and he couldn't even give me an accurate quote over the phone. Basically, you gotta pull the motor out to install a twin turbo kit (MORE MONEY TO SPEND).

Overall, i think the best option would be a stillen supercharger. If you have experience doing any forced induction installs before, you can probably do it your self, making the cost of labor disappear. Or if you decide to take it in, then it won't cost you an arm and a leg to install. You get 9psi stock, and supposedly dyno with about 100hp more. Not to mention no lag!

BUT TURBO'S!!!! I've owned a supercharged honda del sol, and i still own my turbocharged integra gsr @ 10psi. The turbo lag can sometimes be worth the high end power you get. It's good to be torquey with that supercharger, but once you past that first gear you floor it in, the rest of the gears are nearly @ full boost w/ a turbo. Gotta love the power of turbo!

But again, this is only my opinion. There are many other people in here that have experience with f.i. set-ups, and hopefully they can give us some advice on this question. It all depends what you want yourself.

*I just ordered a nitrous express 75 wet shot for my VQ, and i hope i did the right thing for that little extra bump of power.

I opted to go the twin turbo route. I'm still on the stock internals with no engine problems related to boost (knock on wood).

Keep in mind that you don't stay in boost all the time with turbos, so they can stress your engine less than you might think and less than a supercharger where you essentially tie in boost to rpms.

Kits are easy enough to price. Installation will run anywhere from $1k on the low end to $3k+ for twin setups. Add gauge installation and you could be anywhere up to an additional $2k or even more if you go for the full bell & wistles setup.

If you are talking most power, you need to turbo and you need to build your engine. You could easily dump over $25k if you fully build your engine and put in all the gauges you want. Keep in mind that you now should build up the other driveline components (clutch, driveshaft, axles, rear end, etc...).

Fastest acceleration is debatable since you can do a lot to hedge your bets (race slicks, driving lessons, wider tires, gearing, etc....).

Best bang for the buck is still going to be nitrous.

Undecided....?!!

Dayam....! I didn't know that turbo or supercharger set-ups can be quite expensive. I think I'll just stick with basics like exhaust, air intake, etc....Our stock VQ's are alright I guess. I just wish Nissan and Infiniti made the 350Z & G35 turbo's at least. Thanks for all the comments you guys. I learned quite a bit from all informations! Mahalo....

Screw Vakamon! You'll get nothing but trouble there. You want a review of them? go PM beangrower You want quality work? Give Sonic Motorsports a ring, ask for Seth or Robert. Tell'm Chris - 636Racer from Drift Session referred you.

Seth himself has a Greddy TT 350Z, and they've already built a number of G35s and 350Zs. One is our current and last record lap holder for our Superlap events. Another is under going a forged motor build, and will be seeking more boost to make in excess of 500rwhp - reliably.

Of course it costs money to be fast, most FI guys will recommend you to at least reinforce your bottom end. HKS makes a pretty stout set and is readily available, and the price isnt bad either.
