Had my '03 6MT to the dealership this a.m. for warranty related work and asked them to figure out the crackling sound that was getting from the undercarriage. After reading on this forum, I've noticed that it's a pretty common occurrence. Service guy just called and said that it was pinging and asked if I was using regular gas... I said no always premium, but I have been getting it at Costco here in NorCal for the last year or so...

He said to use 76, Chevron, Shell... like what I'm hearing here and add BG44 to help clean things up. I pick my baby up on in a couple of days (Monday) and will try this out. Hopefully, it's just that...

Also, recently had a "low oil pressure" episode, which I didn't know was an issue until and started reading here... could the pinging be a remnant of the low oil episode? Will start oil consumption tests and see where this goes.

Ethos is a "Fuel Reformulator" meaning it changes fuel's chemistry to make fuel combust better.

One of my closest friends works at AutoPro - one of the few shops, and is one of the most highly recomended fuel injector cleaners on Oahu. He tells me that they find a lot of water retention in Tesoro and Aloha...next up is Chevron and 76, and Shell being the better one in the Market to have the least amount of water.

In the early 2000's 76 had some of the best results. A friend of minds is a chemist. I got affiliatd with him when I was into turbo regals (Grand Nationals, T-Types, WE2s). He's an avid TR enthusiasts and wanted to find out what fuel was best for our cars so he did some research and found that amongst the fuels in Hawaii, 76 was the best. he said something about it creating the most rapid amount of fumes which results in a better and more powerful combustion. But whatever...we all took his word for it, he's the chemist. This is how influencial he is, we have friends that are TR enthusiasts that work at the Tesoro refinery. They dont use Tesoro gas.

Personally, I use Costco gas in the truck and G35 and, 76 in the bike. I use Bi-Tron's fuel conditioner, engine and gear treatment in the truck; the same in the G35 and use 87 octane in all of them. I'm sure you can use 87 with ETHOS if you choose to. In the bike, it's the fuel conditioner and the gear treatment. I fill the bike with 87 octane as well. A good friend of mines used the bitron system in his Grand National and used 87 octane...it registered 0 degrees of knock while making over 400whp and over 500ftlbs of tq. His trucking company uses BiTron profusely as well, as well as marketing their products to other trucking and heavy equipment companies.

I'm a local distributor for Bitron. It will work with 87 Octane.

And is this something for the stealership to look at or try another gas station or octane boost.
