Couple Questions

Hey I just moved here about 2 weeks ago, and I have to get my car inspected, so I was curious to know where I have to go to do this. Apparently my car won't pass a regular inspection due to the fact it has aftermarket tint, so I wanted to know if there are any places that will pass me anyway.

My other question is car detailing. How do you guys keep your G's so clean out here? I mean I wash my car every couple days, but it's like as soon as I shammy it, the red dirt attacks my car and I'm back to square one. Are there any tricks of the trade you guys can share me so my car doesn't look like a dustball when I'm cruising?

Other than that, I'm really excited to be here, and I look forward to meeting up with you guys in the future meets.

-Mike

other that... get a car cover. or a mobile garage to keep your car clean. i usually try and get it waxed once a week.. kinda helps.. but BLACK? hehe. i have a hard time. although black is da shet!!! for the first 10min it's washed!!!

Yeah with tint it's kinda hard. Plus to if you get caught it's like $97 a window. So you could get $485 worth of tickets not including the windsheild. I believe senjen can verify this.

i'm glad we're allowed to tint the front side windows, which is better than in other states like california, but they're pretty strict with what they do allow. my friend recently got hit with 287 a window for 4 windows, but luckily he had taken off the tint on the front windshield, which i think carries a steeper penalty... i think in 2005 or 2006 they raised the fine from 97 a window to 287... tickets can easily approach or even pass 1000 dollars to fully clear the ticket... sucks.

You can get an inspection at pretty much any service gas station. They won't pass you unless you strip your illegal tint and re-tint it. The darkest legal tint here is 35% +/- 2% I believe.

There's pretty much no "tricks of the trade" to keep your car clean here versus anywhere else. Pretty much just keep it waxed and hide it in a garage.

Welcome to the island!

It gets pretty old washing the car every 2-3 days. Black sucks the most. It has to rain in Oahu every day for a few minutes. I used to think all of the rainbows were cool but now I see it as somewhere it's raining and someone's G is getting dirty.

Haha, yeah the rain keeps it green out here, but it keeps my car looking like a dirtball.

I don't have black G, but I have an Twilight Blue, which is pretty dark as well, and it's a pain in the butt to keep clean.

Looks like I gotta wash it every 2-3 days, I guess that's good though, gives my haole butt some color..

*shrug* that's why I said, "I believe." hahaha I know there's a "grace" percentage, I just don't know what it is. I think your guess would be better than mine.

To the OP: Ever try a duster? Like the California Duster? That might be an easy way to help extend the time between washes.
