HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLED
Re: HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLED
I believe they ordered it from PE Japan ... but the plugs tht PE recommended were only made in japan, but they said they are runingone step colder for the PE USA ... I will double check to make sure, but thanks for the help, i will KIT with you ... we can both do some research and then dyno to see which combo's work the best, but so far the kit is beautiful, i do wnat to boost up to 10 so i can get in the sweet spot for the turbos, right now the IHI are boosting too low to get the best performance out of them =)
Re: HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLED
Yes I figured that... they had to get it from Japan. I could do this too, but that was gonna be extra and I am not really in a hurry. You are the #2 Coupe in the US. I will, hopefully be, the #1 sedan... haha... not that it matters.
Trust me on the spark plugs - sometimes a plug is a plug - and the Denso plugs ARE the best things money can buy, period! I hope you are not planning on doing 10 psi on stock internals... you can make it through several dynos, but that will shave off years at a time off the engine life.
If you really have an unlimited budget, go with the AEBS overboored 4.2 L stroker kit for our car with 8.5 CR pistons - you will make 700 hp at 15 psi or so....

He Knows he needs to upgrade the internals before boosting over 5psi or so.
Speed Gear is building a VQ that will be supporting ~600WHP, ... and will be based off the PE TT kit. You will see the car in the future at Formula Drift events (hopefully starting in August).
A note about the plugs, ... in a sense, ... there is no sense in spending the money on the Denso plugs (vs NGK), ... when you are turbo'd, you will be changing the plugs more often 'Regardless' of which you use (for peak performance). With Many tests of using Denso (or other comparable Iridiums/Platinums), against NGK Racing Coppers, ... the dyno results were the 'same' when both sets of plugs were new (on a STG4 WRX). And after checking the plugs after ~5k miles, the more expensive plugs still were going to need to be changed. For the price of one of the plat/iridiums, you can get about all 6 of the NGK R's. It's all personal preference.

Did't know about the tests... i would think that even with Fi one can go around 15K miles with iridiums before changing them.
How often would you need to change the copper plugs?
Also, do you guys have a track on Ohau island (1/4 mile, other)?

Re: HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLE
yes, we have a track. .... errr, I think I would call it that. It is a road course/quarter mile combo (http://www.hawaiiracewaypark.com) It's kinda old, ... and sucky, so our times are always slower than what people pull on the mainland.
Anyway, I have never seen a "modified" FI car go more than 15k on a set of plugs. I imagine with 'perfect' tuning, ... it might be possible. But usually we change our plugs about every-other oil change (3-3.5k) (makes it easy to remember). By then, the are in Definite need of changing, ... so obviously they get changed sooner sometimes (depending on how lazy the person is). That is with the coppers (NGK V-Powers, etc).
With the Denso Iridiums/etc, they had to be changed a little less often IF the car is tuned, .... if it was running rich/lean/hot/cold/det'ing/etc they were usually F'd up too, so they had to be changed.
It really all depends on How you drive your car, what it's used for, and what kinds of mods you have. But like I said, a properly tuned car Can go longer (obviously) with the Plainum/Iridium plugs, .... but just IMO, I'll pay the $2 a plug vs the $13-$14 a plug, ... and just change them a little more often (I look at it as: if I'm going to go through the hassle of Checking them[which you should], then I might as well change them).
(rough example: $14 plug x6=$84=1 change; ... $2 plug x6=$12=1 change. 84÷12=7. So approx 7 changes with coppers to the cost of 1 with iridiums/platinums. So will the iridiums/platinums Last 7 times as long as the coppers? no. That's just the way I look at it.)
just my 2¢

Re: HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLE
Yeah whatever sean said .. lol .. no but if i were to boost more i will upgrade the internals .. and for the stroker kit they are sold out .. they had 25 kits on order and already paid for ... but i don't think that will fit into my budget unless i win the mega bucks when i go to vegas ... just right now i have a hard time starting it up when it is cold, and i hope that changing the plugs will solve that issue ... but besides that and the smell of gas from time to time haha taht is teh only kworks i have ... the smell i believe is coming from the hose that had to be drilled into the gas tank ... the mechanic is goign to find something to seal the hole when it goes back in on tues ...
Re: HAWAII: POWER ENTERPRISE TT KIT BEING INSTALLE
I have put on about 300 miles so far in a few days .. haha, my total miles on the car is close to 14k ... the car will be in the shop all week, i leave for my trip tomorrow night .. man can't wait till i can pound the car ... it is so temping right now ... i want more boost ...
