Question For the next G, a couple Q's

Well, I'll be going away from this island the end of this year, and the Family Sedan will be with the wife for a year while I sweat away in the middle east (not Iraq or Afghanistan though). My highly modified (but still relatively slow) Avenger is going to stay here, in whole or part (or many parts). Today I went to check out all the options and colors on the '09 coupes, I think I've made up my mind:

G37 Journey Coupe
* Athens Blue / Stone & Aluminum
* 7 Speed
* Sport Package
* Premium Package
* Nav Package
* 4 Wheel Active Steering Package
* Rear Spoiler (req'd with 4WS )

Can somebody tell me, is the spoiler they talk about with package the little chrome one that houses the camera, or is it the one that sits on top of the trunk like a curvy 2x4?

There's two different rear spoilers listed in the other options on the build your G page on the Infiniti site.

I really prefer the non-spoiler the most, as they flow with the rear of the car much better, but I know that the back-up camera needs that little protrusion to see properly.

Also, I'm pretty sure they didn't have any 4WS down at Infiniti of Honolulu, I forgot to ask. Does anyone have it and can tell me if there's any downsides?

If you're looking at a Coupe, the standard car comes with the chrome lip. The optional spoiler is body colored and covers the chrome lip entirely.

This is what the optional body colored spoiler looks like.

The Coupes only have a single spoiler option. Chrome lip (standard) or body colored lip spoiler (optional). It's the G Sedan that has two spoiler options which I won't get into since you're not looking at a 4 door as it'll only confuse you. Regarding the camera, I'm not sure what you're saying but the camera comes with Nav whether or not your car has the spoiler option.

Regarding 4WAS, for what it's worth you'll almost certainly never see any benefits of the system on the road unless you're one of those a**holes who likes to swerve in front of others on the freeway. The system only functions at higher speeds and turns the rears in the same direction as the fronts to assist in sudden directional changes. It does NOT function at low speeds to decrease the size of your turning radius unlike systems such as GM's now discontinued Quadrasteer system. In short, you're unlikely to ever notice the difference 4WAS makes at speed and some argue that the car actually handles better in the twisties without it and that it's better suited to the bigger cars in Infiniti's lineup such as the M and FX. People who say you'll notice a dramatic difference are only kidding themselves. BTW, when you're ready to buy, let me know. I'll put you in touch with my friend over at the dealership. Trust me when I say that there are some salesman who are better to deal with than others. I would know having worked there for a year and a half.

With that being said, the rear spoiler comes bundled with the 4WAS option. So if you take 4WAS, you HAVE to take the rear spoiler. If you decide to skip 4WAS, you can go spoilerless which seems to be what you'd want to do anyway.

I may have to concede that you're right about 4WAS... it already handles damn good, and I really prefer w/o the spoiler.

I'll be purchasing through the special military tax-free purchase route, and will take delivery of it at my next duty station, not here.

Bob Becker was the guy who showed me all the different options and let me drive the different optioned models. I purchased my current G from him end of last year, and he was good to work with throughout. He was also very helpful yesterday in spite of me being very up front that I wouldn't be buying it for a year, and that it probably was not possible to purchase through this dealer for delivery at my next duty station. I even offered to let him pawn me off on a salesman that needed practice talking up all the different options instead of spending an hour and a half with me.
