i say if its going to be around thossand bucks, buy a third party warranty for like 1300 and they will fix it for a small deductable. plus you'll have worry free warranty for the next 3-5 years.. when i got my g, the 3rd party warranty xfered over to me. i took my car in to the dealer to fix my door lock actuator and fuel sending unit and only paid 100 bucks.. just a thought..

Third-party warranties do not cover existing conditions, if you can get them to cover anything (Stay away from US Fidelis!)

^^ they only cover items that don't break often such as lug nuts, roof liners and other stuff that never breaks. Who would start a buisness knowing there going into a losing battle. It's all about getting the person to sign the contract and hand over their money.

true, forgot to mention if you can get away with that. they might have a rep take a look at your car also..

so just grab a friend, replacement parts, 12 pack, and the research to try and do it yourself.

The procedure doesn't look too bad, but there's going to be some hassle getting some components off:

WARNING
Do not turn the steering wheel or column with the steering gear removed.

1.Drain the power steering fluid.
2.Remove or disconnect the following:
■Both front wheels
■Engine undercover
■Tie rod ends from the steering knuckles
■Pinch bolts from upper and lower sides
■Power steering fluid pipes from the steering gear assembly
■Bolt from rack mounting bracket insulator
■Bolts attaching the mounting brackets and the steering gear from the vehicle

To install:

1.Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
■Tighten all fasteners.
■Fill the power steering reservoir with fluid and bleed the air from the power steering system.
■Check the vehicle front end alignment and adjust as necessary.

WARNING
Do not turn the steering wheel or column with the steering gear removed.
