4.08 FD installed!!!!

just got done with my baby today after hours and hours and hours hacking out the old subframe bushing and putting the solid aluminum one in.. that thing is a PITA...

but other then that, install went well. my co-worker who installed the ring and pinion got it done in a jiffy.. made it look so easy.. i guess it helps since that was his expertise last year working as a rear end mechanic.. hes got all the tools needed for the install.

anways, ive only put on about 20 miles so far so i'll just have to wait til about 200 or so to let er rip.. havent really taken it past 3.5k rpm but i can tell its gonna somewhat haul-***.

stock 3.5 6th gear going 60mph my rpm was at 2100. now its at 2450.. i do however shift to 5th gear in places i would normally be cruising in 4th.. it was expected.. i doubt it will bother me and if it does im sure ill forget about it the second i get pull back into my seat. of course, theres nothing like going FI..

anyways, ill post back maybe in a week of so after the break in period..

if anyone is interested in purchasing 4.08's or any other FD, let me know and i can give u all the part numbers u will need for the oem nissan bearings, seals, etc instead of buying the kit from other vendors charging 100 bucks more then what they actually cost.. i paid the extra money so u guys could save..

my co-worker can also do the install for a reasonable fee..

kkk put on 120 miles since last week wed wanted to wait til about 200 but im changing out the diff fluid tomorrow and yeah.. 120 miles should have broken it in already..

anyways, clear open road i decided to pound 1st gear and was pretty impressed.. definitely pulls harder now and makes me enjoy driving my car again.. thats pretty much the only time i went WOT so far due to me choosing not to speed when other lives are at risk..

other then that, i really cant say anything else about it. haha havent taken no turns or anything but this may be one of the better/best mods i have done so far..

i dont have the part numbers on me at the moment but ill try and have them posted by sunday night. this is the breakdown of what i spent

ring and pinion 525 shipped
install kit 335 shipped
4 bottles royal purple gear oil=60
aluminum subframe bushing=75 shipped
whiteline rear diff bushings slip on's=65 shipped
2 drain/fill plug gasket=3
2 oem cir-clips=5 (this is not really nesscessary but only a couple bucks to change out)
RTV=3

i think thats pretty much it.. roughly about 1k..

yes it is!!! a pita that is... pounding it in seems like it flowered it out a bit.. had to buy lots of grade eight bolts and nuts to pull the bushing in place..

forgot to mention that i changed out the diff fluid so thats another 46 bucks!! yes, checkers is somewhat of a rip off but i still love them.. daiei has them for 30 bucks for 2 quarts..

anyways, here is the part numbers minus the pinion nut which didnt have a part number. im sure if u search for the dealer parts list, u can find it..

2) 38225-4OP71 CIR CLIP
2) 11026-4N200 DIFF PLUG GASKET
1) 38120-0C000 BEARING PINION REAR
2) 38440-0C000 BEARING WHEEL
1) 38140-0C000 BEARING PINION
2) 38342-P9010 SEAL OIL
12) 38102-7S000 DRIVE GEAR BOLT
1) 38165-0C020 SPACER HOUSING
1) 38189-9O117 SEAL OIL

price those out and should be around or even less then 200 bucks..
my co-worker says if anyone wants the install done, he can do it for 150 if u bring the carrier/pumpkin to him and not use his garage.. its pretty simple to remove.. 4 bolts on driveshaft, 6 i think on each axel stub so total of 12, breather hose on the top, subframe bolt, and 2 bolts holding the diff up.. haha, not so bad eh? it was easier then i thought it was going to be..

oh ya, and if you get lucky, you'll be able to use your stock shims.. i wanted to buy like 10 different size shims but not after i found out the dealer wanted 10 bucks each.. worst comes to worst, my coworker has shims that'll fit our bearings..

ill post prices on here.. also, you should just go 4.08 instead of the 3.9. MIGHT AS WELL!!

if you bring the pumpkin to him i believe he said he can do it for 150.
if you bring your car and help him take it out then its 300.

sooo, you looking at twice the price.. but then again, ill bet you that any other shop will charge more then what hes charging.. anyways, the pumpkin aint that hard to come out..
