Re: anyone know which is a good sway bar to buy?

I got the Hotchkis TVS Kit Stage 1 which included the Sport Coils and Performance Swaybars. Drop was about 3/4" all the way around and no need for aftermarket toe or camber. Settings are recommended medium front and soft rear.

Much improved handling and able to take corners with less roll. Sways were fairly easy to install as long as you had an impact wrench, otherwise a breaker bar would be good.

I got my Hotchkis from Coz at Concept Z Performance based in Arizona. After looking at every possible vendor I could find, he gave me the lowest price and shipped it our SAME DAY!

The Stillen swaybars were on sale recently for $289 ( i think its back at regular price now) at stillen.com. They're supposed to be pretty decent but not worth the full price. The nismo sways are good but pricey.

any aftermarket sway will be an improvement to the stock sways. After putting the stock sway next to the Hotchkis swaybar, you can tell why. Remember when you used to do pencil fights in elementary school? Just think of comparing a regular pencil to a red "Goliath" pencil....ring a bell??? lol

hope this helps.....

Yeah I forgot Cuscos..heard good things about them as well. It just depends on what you really need them for. If its day to day driving or dragging at raceway park, something more inexepnsive like the Hotchkis (~$259) are okay and do very well.

If you do alot of autoX, which I wouldn't know where you would do that on Oahu, having the multiple, multiple stiffness settings on the Stillen and Nismo is what you should look at. Otherwise, if you're not constatnly adjusting the settings, you're basically paying the higher price for the name like Stillen or Nismo. All the swaybars have very similar tubular diameters....

If you like having top-end name-brand stuff (like I do), just remember that no one is going to get on their hands and knees and look at your underbody swaybars and say, " oooooo, nismo sway bars...those look cool!" lol

Re: anyone know which is a good sway bar to buy?

Another difference would be if the sways are solid or hollow. A great majority of the bars are hollow and basically are made stiffer by either diameter or by mounting position.

Almost any reputable brand would be good......but you will have to make sure that they are matched and keeps the car in a neutral state of balance. On a sway that has adjustible mounting points....careful on the choices between the rear and front as you will change it to either under or oversteer if you are not careful. Even if you mount both on the middle selection, if the rears are naturally stiffer than the front versus stock....you might have a more pronounced oversteer.

Stillen things are usually over priced, Hotchkis makes great suspension pieces, Nismos are stiffer...just not overly so, the Cuscos are pretty solid. I have lifted one wheel on my car going over some hills and turning at the same time. There are other brands out there as well that will work.....but the price to get them is a little bit ridiculous.

The Hotchkis versions seem to be working fine on most of the cars though. 3 way adjustible on the fronts and rears. Though if you can get your hands on polyurathane bushings for the sways...then that will make a lot of difference as well. No matter how stiff the sways are, if the bushings are flexing, you are losing that rigidity that you wanted. However...too stiff of a sway bar and suspension can be bad as well. You loose the compression that you could use for traction. Instead you might end up skidding across the road.

Hope this helps a little in your quest. Good luck.

EErrrrrr sorry. Did not mean to sound like I was ragging on the Stillen items. Just that if you buy them from Stillen..they cost waaay too much. They are good quality items. Just that as long as you can find them on line at a better price, then thats worth the money.
