Third brake light out

So I go to get safetycheck and I didn't pass due to my third brake light being out. I'm pretty sure that thing has been out since 2004. Haha! The dealer says its about $300 to fix it! I guess the whole board needs to be replaced. Searching g35driver, it seems that this is a common problem. I was wondering if anyone tried out these replacement boards from LEDMARKERS, a sponsor of our website ...and if so, how easy is it to DIY on a coupe? thanks for any feedback.

I had the same problem with not being able pass safety check because of the faulty oem third brake light on the g35 coupe. I was also thinking about getting those replacement boards from LEDMARKERS but i decided to just find a cheap fix and an easy DIY. This may not be the best replacement, but I was in a rush to pass my safetycheck lol.

Yeah man I hear you. Anything is better than paying $300 at the dealer. How difficult was the install?

Just pretty much plug and play man. What I did was use the dremel to remove the old LED's on the oem third brake light board and stick on the LED strip i bought off ebay on it. Here's a DIY guide that I used to kind of follow.

A cheap LED strip will not be nearly bright enough, reliable or the right color . Factory brake lights are not red ,they are red/orange .There are no cheap strips that come in this color . Our boards will last the life of the car and match factory brightness . Install is as simple as plugging it back in and we always get them shipped back out next day .We have done over 100 replacements now and not one unsatisfied customer .

Every car since 1986 has a third brake light and is permitted by law to have one . They have been used on a lot of cars since vw invented it in 1952 though . It was proven that it prevents rear end collisions by 50% . It also help by designating a rear light as a sole brake light instead of a tail light being a marker/brake/turn . This way one cant be confused thinking a marker light is a brake light .

We have had numerous customers get tickets for having their third brake light out as well as fail inspections . Its there for added safety so there is really no reason why someone shouldnt have it even it only helped by 1% .

Any car with a spoiler has the third brake light on the spoiler instead of on the rear deck. Your probably thinking of people who removed their spoiler which has the third brake light and then they don't have a third brake light .That's not from the factory . Most people who swap to a spilerless trunk also do the mod of adding a rear deck third brake light .

Factory spoiler has the 3rd light. IOH usually brought the cars in without the spoiler and added here. My cars were that way so I actually had a 4th brake light.
