going to Maui, any suggestions?
I'm heading to Maui for a wedding.
any suggestions on things for me to do while I'm over there?
going with two couples. any nice restaurants or hot spots to check out? not really into clubbing.
looking for something adventurous or physically demanding.
thanks

Warren and Annabelles Magic show is pretty awesome. I'm not usually into that kind of thing, but it is by far the best magic show I have ever seen.

Don't bother getting the food there, it is so-so, eat beforehand, but the actual show itself is so far beyond incredible, I can't describe it.

Snorkeling on the Wailea side (Molokini tours are based out of Kihei). Do not go out by yourself, go with a tour (and one that counts all divers before they leave the dive site).
Mountain biking down Haleakala. Beware drivers since it's a scenic route, you don't want to be turned into Frogger.
Golf, deep sea fishing, or eating all of the food at the luau (you will go into the state known as "Polynesian paralysis").
Have fun.

went to maui for the first time in febuary. Did the downhill bike ride on haleakala with Maui Downhill. It was pretty fun, and I recommended that. It's not like ur gonna pedal much.
Also, checked out the 2 race shops while I was there. My boy from back home (Kauai) works at Kryptonics, and also checked out the guys at 1320 performance. Both pretty impressive shops.
Oh, and only saw 1 G35 coupe while I was there for a week.

thanks guys....keep the ideas coming. i may look into that mtn biking as well as the kayak tour. one of my buddies said he actually flipped in one of the kayaks. He doesn't know how to swim and apparently was white as a ghost once they flipped him back over.
the wedding is being held at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua. Hopefully Haleakala is nearby. some other folks recommended doing the Hana drive??? guess there are lots of waterfalls and scenic things to check out.
keep the ideas coming.

Kapalua is on the northwest side of the island. Haleakala is on the southern portion. Should take you maybe 45 minutes to drive to the base of Haleakala (don't know how long to go up).
Hana drive is scenic if you aren't the one driving. Slow speed, narrow road, many turns makes for impatient drivers. My suggestion is for whoever is driving to keep their eyes on the road all the time.
Also Maui Ocean Center near Maalaea Harbor. You can check out some of the Hawaiian ocean dwelling critters. They used to have a captive tiger shark. It was all beaten up, I hope they let it go, but if they didn't it's something to see.

i did the drive to hana-- puked my guts out on the way back
besides the twisty, curvy road, i think the altitude change from being in haleakala that same morning contributed to my queasiness...
there's also a winery in the haleakala area-- ever tasted pineapple wine?

My all time favorite seafood restaurant there is called Big Mama's Fish House. I go to that restaurant everytime I'm there. Front street in Lahaina has some nice shopping/gallery spots where you can just walk/shop/and dine by the beach. Yeah Hana is great place to visit. Very breathtaking, but I must warn you about the drive there, it might make you dizzy. You should definitely check out a luau at one of the hotels. That's the ultimate thing to do at Maui.
I just got back. Definitely do the road to Hana. Make sure you rent a 4x4 of some sorts.
It was the highlight of my trip. Just make sure you go all the way through, don't turn around and p*ssyfoot back the same way you came.
As for restaurants, Japanese food, Kincha is really good and Roy's of Kihei was the best non hotel restaurant that me and the Mrs. ate at.
But Hana is a must. Here are some pics...
Just do it.
p.s.
I got some of the best Maui wowi on the way to Hana at a snack stand, and no I didn't get ripped off.
