Ipod FM Transmitter
Ipod FM Transmitter
I want to listen to my Ipod in the G but I really don't want to wire it. Anyone have experience with the iTrip? I'm not looking for the greatest quality but I don't want too much loss in quality or too much static so I was wondering if there's good reception over here.
Or does anyone have experience with the cassette adaptor? The only thing keeping me from this one is the wire and it won't look clean.

I'm using the iTrip right now. It works ok, is very convenient and looks cool. Downside is that the sound quality isn't that great. The cassette adapter option sounds a little better, but the cord keeps it from being an option for me.
If youre not using XM radio you can run a rca wire from that input to the Ipod and it will play just like a cd chager. the wire is like $10 max at Ripoff Shack (radio Shack) all you have to do its pop your dash cover off pug in the rca and your good to go
I'm just concerned about static. I want to find out if there's pretty good frequencies here on the island. As far as quality...if theres a clear signal does it sound like radio quality? If it is, I really don't mind at all.
I really don't want to wire it. If the iTrip or any other wireless FM doesn't do well, wiring it will be my last resort.

i use the cassette adapter with my PSP. It's sounds pretty good, but yes, that one wire can get annoying. The PSP fits perfectly right in the stock "suppose to have" Navi compartment too.
I used the iTrip and had no problems. Not a perfect sound, but if you're not looking for perfect, the iTrip is fine.
Somehow I lost my iTrip (don't ask) and thought about a replacement. I actually found a perfect solution. This Car adaptor mount with built-in FM transmitter by Belkin. I love it!!!
Somewhere to put the iPod (mini) because the adaptor is right next to the stereo, charger so you don't have to worry, and the FM transmitter with 4 programmable channels you can choose from when the signal gets bad.
I found 88.7, 92.1, and 107.1 are good ones.

I bought my GF the Belkin FM iPod tuner for her car. IMHO, it's not worth it. You have to find a good spot so it will play with only minor static. I am running the PAC AAI-NIS in my car and the music from the iPod is CD Quality. I highly recommend it over any other option!
The iPod fits perfectly in the mount you see pictured and I just run mini RCA wires to the ashtray inputs...

I'm on Oahu...but man Circuit Shetty and CompUSA doesn't carry it. CompUSA has the one for the regular ipod though but it won't look clean. Any ideas other than the apple store in alas?
I figure I'll try it and return it if it sucks.

Bought mine from compusa last week. have you checked in the middle islet by the ipod stuff. they had stuff on both sides too. also, check the back by the apple stuff.
check online at compusa.com too. they have an inventory check too.

Well. Made the journey to Alas today. (Live in Pearl City & go to Pearl Ridge to buy stuff) Bought the iTrip from the Apple store.
After trying it, it's much better than I expected. When playing songs theres no static at all, no BS. Drove it from Alas back to PC with almost no interference. The only time you can hear a small static noise is when inbetween songs or when the song is really soft. My friend brought his tape adaptor to compare the two and the casette noise is irritating. The quality is equal, if not better. Honestly if the signal is clear, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from CD, but that's just me. I'm not as sound minded as others.
I guess it comes down to a persons own expectations. I went in it expecting radio quality and to me it is above it and I really recommend it to those not expecting the best. (I know the iTrip and Ipod is old, but I only got one now)
Thanks for all the recommendations/sugestions.

Hope you like it. Like I said, I had one for my mini, but somehow lost it. The only reason I got the belkin was because in addition to the FM, it acts as a holder and charger.
So, just curious, where do you put your iPod in your G?

I have two places...in the pop out ashtray, I put a block of black foam in it so my ipod can stand up while being secure. Or in the small middle console, put foam in it and lay the ipod down.
Any one know if a stick on signal booster for cellular phones would help with the signal?
I'm seriously considering it.
