I've noticed in the last several weeks I've had my G, the headlights don't seem to be the standard Xenon's that you see on BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus and even Acura.

They seem to be closer to a halogen in color then a Xenon. My car before the G was a '00 Cadillac Catera Sport which came with Xenon and they were much brighter and more of a beam then a standard looking headlight.

Is this the next generation of Xenon's?? Not to say its bad or anything, the lights are still great but they don't seem nor look like other cars with Xenon's. Then again, the G is different in every sense and I mean that in a good way

Also, when you drive with Xenon's do you notice every bump you go over the headlight beam jumps up and down. I keep thinking its going to blow the bulb.

Hi Madler, I do not have the Xenons and I wish I had got them. I have noticed that the halogen low beams are decent but when compared to the lowbeam of my wife's car there is no comparison. My wife has a X5 which has a broad bright halogen lowbeam. Considerably brighter and gives good illumination. On the other hand the halogen highbeam of the G35 is great. It offers great distance and illumination. I am impressed even at 90 mph. It seems the more money you spend on a car the better and brighter the headlights.

Have you ever seen how Mercedes S500 with Xenons whoa boy! I am thinking about installing brighter bulbs. I have 65 watt low and 100 high beam on my motorcycle. It works great.

I've had Xenon's on 2 cars and once you get them its hard to change to something else. Its like you get spoiled or something. The X5 has GREAT Xenon's, I can always tell when an X5 is driving down the street because of the way BMW has those lights setup.

Overall the lights on the G35 are great. Just strange that they're not like other cars with Xenon's. And yes, the Xenon's work great at 90mph

Mercedes has some wild Xenon's on them. I'm actually a big fan of the Mercedes Xenon's. My brother-in-law installed aftermarket Xenon's on his motorcycle and they actually look great. Then I have friends who have installed aftermarket Xenon's in their cars and they look too blue.

Anyways, its just strange how Infiniti has them. Even the I30 and Q's Xenon's look different then the G's. Oh well.

madler: The first question to be answered is - what year is your G35? Do you konw if its a 2003 or 2003.5??? I konw that the 2003's did not come with standard Xenons.. the 2003.5's did.. Therefore, If you have a 2003 you probabely dont have xeons unless you have the premium package. Ive seen brighter xenons on other cars.. but the G's are pretty bright and white.. I think you might just have the halogens...

The easiest way to tell what year your G is to look at the back trunk.. Does it have INFINIT in a box-type thing? or is it spread out throughout the back like I N F I N I T I...

Yeah its the 2003.5 model cause I just got it about a month. It does have the large Infiniti across the back and I've got it loaded with all the goodies.

Maybe its just me since I was so use to my other cars Xenon's being more of a beam then a larger bulb like the G35.

 

First - the cut off of the low beams seems to low. But I think it is normal as I have read that on other forums.

Second, it seems to me that the high beams are not Xenon. Is that correct?

 

We have reflector units.

Your Catera and a BMW Xeon system uses Projector style unts.

Look at the size of our lense, it takes an awful amount of reflecting to get that thing to be bright. Other cars that use reflecting units, such as an TL-S, has smaller headlights, so the scattered light is more closer together like a beam.

 

JJSg35: Yeah.. thats correct.. The High beams are not Xeons.. they come from the circular area below the headlight circular thinggie in the headhight housing.. Some people have chagned (hi beam/fog light) bulbs to make the color match a better one..

You guys have the same car I have? What figment of your imagination are you seeing? Infiniti xenon's are not like Audi or Bmw xenons. Ours are more straight up white. They are blue the first 30 seconds when they come on. But after that..... they turn pure white.

at start up they are really blue. but once they warm up, they become a bright white.

 

envykillz is absolutely right. Put a projector lense in front of the bulb and it will look a heck of a lot better. Whether you want to open up your headlight casing to do so is a different story. Even if you upgrade your stock xenon's, it will still not look as good as those cars with projector xenons.

if u upgrade to some 8000K xenon, it will be brighter then those found on X5....

 

I wanna upgrade the color temp on my xeons but have no clue on where to begin...

Im guessing if i purchase new xenon bulbs i can just plug & prey?

Just replace the bulbs with a D2R of your choice in colour temperature. It'll probably be expensive for the bulbs and other than the look, anything higher than 6000K is likely to give you LESS lumen output rather than be brighter.
Because none of the major manufacturers make the high colour temp bulbs (oveer 6000K), they may not last as long either.
