HFC: Crawford vs. Kinetix

I thought I read somewhere that these aftermarket cats only work for a year or so before blowing out their guts (or something like that).
As anyone had a smog check done after having them on for a while? I'd hate to buy them and not pass smog 2 or 3 years down the road... (stock are guaranteed for 5 years).

I initially wanted to install high flow cats...then I saw how much they cost (and I have heard that you also might not pass inspection anyway).
I don't understand why people don't just install test pipes (for off road use only, of course...lol). Just swap out the test pipes for a stock set up when it comes inspection time....oops, I mean when you leave the track.
Now I respect, big time, environmental concerns. But my engine (new) doesn't pollute much anyway, and some of the GINOURMOUS Trucks/SUV's here in Texas are spewing smoke/soot already. Not that 2 wrongs make a right, but please....
So what is the logic of HF cats. Someone please explain to me, because I am confused.

My reasoning for thinking HFC would be a better option, is the way they are built. I've installed 2-3 sets of Crawfords, and they look so beefy and made very well compared to all the dozens of TP's I've installed.
The only quality TP's I've seen are LaBree's. Mine made a weird rattling noise though, which is why I want to go to HFC's, they won't make that noise.
