Here's My Port and Polished Plenum! (lots of pics!)

Thanks to everyone that gave me the idea and the help along the way.

BUT! i got a problem. i started it up and the "service engine soon" light comes on. I've checked all the hoses and connections, and they're all in. anyone know what could be wrong? i'm in the middle of an ECU reset. help please.

(i don't know why some of the pics are smaller then the others)

How long did that take???
How did you polish? Sandpaper to polish rouge or what. Did you follow a DIY or did you just practice until you got it???
Details please...

ha, there was a thread on my350z.com, a few people over there did various things to there plenums.

i used a dremel for most of the work and 3" flap wheels. it was a pain to take off all the "stock" divits, i basically used the flap wheels when i could and dremel for tricky areas and then spent a lot of time doing it by hand do get it all in the same direction. i started this about a month ago, working almost everyday for a couple hours or so. (i also when on a trip during that time though). i really missed driving my car!! if you don't have another car or don't want to buy another upper and lower plenum, don't even think about doing this. it takes a long long time!!! I think my hands and figure nails are permanently stainded with aluminum "dust".

oh, and i did the ECU reset and the light went off, does anyone know why it went on? and if its ok to drive now?

Your G was prolly mad at you for not driving it!! j/k
If you're concerned you can pick up an OBDII reader for about $40 or, most auto parts store will read the code for you for free.

Thanks for the info. I actually ride my bike a lot during the summer but I don't think I could do without a car for several weeks.
Once again looks sick!!

That looks very nice.

Btw, becareful about the injectors reinstalling. The lights may be because of your AFR. I'd get your car check out ASAP. Don't want to run too lean or rich. It's also affected by you port matching your Intake Manifold. You don't want it to be ultra smooth since it's where fuel and air get mixed it. Some people like those from Endyn recommends the dimple effect to have better mixture and flow.

otherwise, great mods.

You did the same thing I wanted to.

However, I have another plan of smoothing it out and Ceramic coat the upper plenum. It'd be more benefit to me to keep the heat out of the inside.

Why not do the lower plenum as well?

It does look like you spent a lot of time making that thing glow man - interested if it makes it better or worse though.

The rough bumps do help in ionization - and the smoothing does help flow. My heads and everything were done, and we tornado polished everything - to force ionization increase - so too smooth can actually make it worse.

Do you have dyno's of before, and are you going to do afters?

Rick

+1, any dynos? i'm interested as well..

by porting at polishing you may result in a loss of low end and possibily mid-range.. your power band may not kick in until high rpm

The way you could have triggered the ses light is if you turned the key on while your car was apart.the sensors being unpluged will get a false reading.Good job on the polishing, that sure does take a long time.I also ported & polished my lower plenum.

thank guys, the light hasn't come back on, and i took it out tonight, i think i can say that i can "feel" the difference. but it really is at the higher RPMs. the low's feel exactly the same and the highs have noticable gain. i don't have any dyno and i don't plan on getting one. i don't really care about the actual numbers, as long as i know its there and can feel it (even if its all in my head).
