suspect exhaust leak, how to isolate it?

standing on drivers side with nose above headers, i can smell little exhaust....i verified this by doing the same on passenger side w no exhaust smell noted.....i remember reading awhile back on this "smoke" that can be applied into intake track to detect leak, is there such a thing? i tried a few exhaust shops, but they seem confused....

I don't know about smoke products for the intake.
Can't you hear the leak??
A small leak is usually detectable by a 'phit phit phit' type of sound.
Larger leaks are much more noticeable. Kinda a 'putt putt putt' sound.
Make sense?? Probably not.
Anyway, I would try the listen method.
You can also stick your hand close to where you think it may be leaking and feel for it. Getting close to the headers with you hand, however, is not recommended.
What did the guys at the exhaust shop say? Do they have a test you can try?
Good luck!!

its recommended to go back and tighten all your exhaust bolts about 500 miles or a few weeks after you install it. that might solve your problem. speaking of which, i still havent done mine.

yep, got that phit phit phit sound as i rolled into gas pedal........
also tightend the bolts(manifolds, cats and ypipe).......and i hope it's one of the small gaskets that's in need of replacing vs a small crack on the headers somewhere!
