1/2" Copper Isothermal Spacer Installed

Hey,

So after a few months of hesitation and research and reading people's posts on these forums, i finally ordered my spacer and installed it tonight. I ended up going for the 1/2" Copper Isothermal Spacer (Pretty cold in New England in the winter). Having only installed my cold air intake and z-tube on this car, i don't have much mechanical experience. So i tossed around having it installed. But, i opted to attempt the install myself. And overall, it went pretty smooth. I took my time, read the directions carefully and i was able to finish it within 2 hours. At the first startup, the engine ran real rough and stalled. Oops, forgot to re-clamp a hose in the back. Re-started it, and it sounds and ran fine. SUCCESS!

So here's my question though, i'd appreciate any advice. I thought i read about this in a previous forum, but i searched and couldn't find it. I notice a slight and faint wistle sound at about 2.5-3 RPM, but then it goes away outside that range. I don't hear it at an idle. I can't differentiate if its the sound of the larger volume of air being sucked in, or if something is loose. Has anyone else heard this noise? Is there something I need to check?

BTW... i WAS able to fit the stock engine cover back on. and my first impressions is that the butt dyno is VERY pleased

Hey I am curious why you went with just the spacer?

I bought both the spacer and the lower and recently decided to road dyn them seperately and recetly posted to get other owners opinions.

I am hesitant to post my opinion becaue i do not want to bias the responses.

i still have not gotten used to the whistle sound though.

I decided with this setup, a). because of the cold (thats why i chose the copper) and b). i just couldn't warrant spending the extra for the lower when the power gains are not substantial over just the spacer.

The whistle sound... i think its getting better. Like i said, i only hear it between 2.5-3 RPM, but its if i am on the gas a little bit. Driving at a constant speed, i don't hear it. I guess i should also wait for everything to setup too. This is really the first time i've really driven since the install. I just went around the block yesterday after the install.

yeah the whistling seems to happen in the same range for me too but I a learning to live with it.

Well since no one has responded to my other thread regarding the testing of each part, MD part that is, seperatly I will add my take on this.

I have recently butt dyno'd the parts seperately and they really seem to perform just as well seperately. I would be willing to concede a slight advantage to the spacer.

I really did not notice any loss with the two combined so I think you'll likely be very happy with just the spacer.

Yeah, i agree, the spacer is enough to keep me happy for a while. It def screams towards the redline a helluva lot quicker now

I guess i'm still a lil' nervous about the whistle. I don't think its a rattle or anything. I'm almost inclined to pull everything apart this weekend and re-install. Has anyone else had this problem/heard this noise besides Foo G and myself??????

Rest assured you/we are not alone with this whistle. When I was bone stock I could hear and thought it would go away after I installed my stillen cai.... didn't happen it only got louder.

If you do a search in the intake forum on the word whistle you will find several other hits.

i dunno i have a 1/2" copper isothermal and didnt notice any whistling when i installed mine. infact it sounded quieter overall. i always heard whistling from the z-tube since i installed that. just start her up and make sure theres no leaks that might be causing it.

I def did that when i was putting everything back together. I don't hear it at a normal idle... only when driving. Sounds like i'm not alone tho....
