MREV install question

Will the engine cool down enough in 3-4 hrs, or do I really have to wait over night to do it? Can I speed up the cooling time by hosing the engine down periodically?

If I have to wait over night to do it I might have to wait a month to install...

I think I may have solved my problem. I'm gonna borrow my brother's car at lunch and leave mine at home, so it should be cool enough by this evening to install.

Yep, a cat or exhaust manifold may get real hot, but the intake manifold / collector cools pretty quickly, i think its aluminum so yeah.

The main idea though, behind doing it cold is so that u torque everything down correctly, and the metal is not expanded from the heat. I don't really think its a big deal though.

I installed the MREV+ after the car had cooled down overnight. However, I am planning on installing the MREV2 soon on the dyno after a initial few dyno pulls. You just have to be careful around the engine bay and hang on to those warm bolts.

Another question, where can I rent a torque wrench (how much to rent)? Or should I just use the nut driver and glove option?

You would be better off going to Sears and buying an inch-lb. torque wrench and playing it safe. If you can find a torque wrench to rent, I would not trust the calibration on it because it's a rental. With the nut driver method, you stand a chance of either under tightened the bolts and experience a leak or over tightening the bolts and stand a chance of snapping a bolt.

At the intake manifold and lower plenum assemblies there are 6 bolts, which need to be torqued down to 100 inch-lbs. If these are not tightened properly and cause an exhaust leak, you will have to remove everything and start all over again. So, you might be better off either buying a new tq. wrench. Why take a chance. Have a good install and enjoy!

just go buy one at Sears.. better to get a good one than rent a busted one. I learned from experience.

Plus, if you like, you could return the one from Sears too. But if you must, just call around local hardware stores that rent tools, and you might be able to find a inch-lb torque wrench.
