z-tube just installed...wow? o_O

i just installed my ztube today and at frirst i wondered what noticeable difference there was.....didnt hear jack! Now...been driving around and its insane how much different the EXHAUST sounds with a z tube. Why is this? heres the scenerio: 2k rpm's in 3rd gear, you dont notice anything until you give it WOT and it climbs near 3-4k rpm. The exhaust note itself sounds more of a deep moan. Is it me or is it really changed? Performance wise it obviously isnt gonna do much, but you hear the whole engine working under WOT now.

Its also not just me, friends in the car where also impressed. Can someone with more engine knowledge give me insight on why its so much of a difference? Cause i am very impressed and surprised my exhaust note itself changed due to a simple tube. Stock intake tube has a wierd cone that i guess is supposed to create a vortex of some sort and distort the air - therefor i guess silencing the engine? and the z-tube is simply a straight pipe thats allowing a suction like a vacuum?

either way - id recommend a ztube mod to anyone, especially after hearing the tone difference in my exhaust.

i didnt hear a difference in the exhaust at all..

but i do hear the "whole engine working under WOT now."

yes, the g-tube has a baffler which reduces engine noise b/c the g is meant to be a luxury sports coupe and most who buy it dont want the sound..

to my knowledge, i dont think ztubes make a difference in your exhaust note at all. ive never heard anyone say this..but i could be wrong i guess..

the z-tube is .5 bigger in diameter compared to the stock g-tube with the resonator, you could always clean out your throttle body to remove that buildup

I don't recall it effecting the exhaust note on my car either. I don't see how it would, since it's on the intake side and has nothing to do with affecting the exhaust coming out. Even most can't notice the sound change with a y-pipe which is on the exhaust side. Maybe you and your friend are thinking it's louder b/c you just added something to the car. mind over matter.

If you want another project for the stock airbox you can do what I did. I removed the box that connects to the bottom of the stock airbox. Then I took a plastic lid and covered the hole at the bottom of the stock airbox to keep the vaccuum.

I don't know about my exhaust seeming any louder, but I installed the Z-tube well after installing the MREV+, headers & cats, and it was clear the difference it made in sound. The intake growl is mean and is a good match for the exhaust.

Most people do the Z-tube as a first mod, when it only gives a bit of a sound difference. If you have plans to do other intake/exhaust mods, I'd suggest doing those first. You'll appreciate that Z-tube a **** of a lot more!
