What do you guys think? I'm getting my HKS exhaust this friday. Is this a doable DIY or should I just go ahead and cough up $70 for a shop to install?

Do you have a ramp or good jack and a good wrench? If so, it'll take you maybe a couple hours if you do it slow. If you take it to a shop, it depends on the shop. If they're reliable get them to do it, and if it doesn't look right or perfectly straight they'll fix it. The only thing with taking it to a shop is that they'll prolly not be as careful as you not to scratch any of the piping.

With proper tools it shouldn't be too hard. its when you get to the headers and even the cats, when you might want a shop to do it.

It took me about 30 - 45min with a buddy. If you have the tools do it, and if you can get a buddy do it. Everyting fits like a glove, great exhaust.

if you have access to a lift then i say do it yourself if not then just cough up the 70 bucks...and also have somebody help you if you dont take it to a shop

I agree to a point. I don't have a lift and used jack stands all the way around. If you are not mechanically inclined you should just go and pay the 70 bucks. Otherwise, a ratchet set, jack(s) with jack stands (4) and some elbow grease should do it.

70 bucks is too much!! where are you located? i have a friend than can do 50 or maybe even less!

Yeah DIY for sure...its not that hard at all. I paid the 12 yr old neighbor $10 to help hold stuff for me and i did it myself (except with stillen exhaust). You will just need a socket wrench and a coupe sockets ( i think the socket size was either 12MM or 13MM) and some WD-40 or some kind of lube and you will be all set.

There are 2 rubber mount things in the back that your exhaust hangs on i subjest spraying those with the lube before starting to rip it apart because it usually takes a couple times of lubbing them up before the exhaust will come off those mounts. Reason being is that you start from the cats and work your way back and when you get to that part it will just slide off and you wont have to wait like 10 minutes for the lube to set in. You start to get impatient cause you want to hear the thing installed so damn bad.

Don't you need a blowtorch to cut the current exhaust off of? Then a welder to weld the HKS on. I'm just guessing. When I added twin exhaust to my Corolla some year�s back this is what they did.

You could do it yourself with the right tools and WD40 as mentiond above. If you have any leaks you'll
need a muffler shop anyway.....$70 is a good price
for the install and they can fix any leaks before they
take it off the rack. I had a few leaks with my second
cat-back (borla). LOL

No not at all. The exhaust is connected with bolts....none of it is welded togather.

the HKS is direct bolt on, it fits perfectly. All you need is a ramp and a wrench like someone stated.

Hey gary how do they fix leaks? I have a stillen cat back and on where the mid pipes connect to the mufflers there is black resen (spelling?) on the pipe so i think its a leak. Anyway i can fix it?
