HELP !!! Big problem with PLENUM install.

Okay so I installed a slightly used APS Tall Boy plenum on my 03.5 G35 sedan. Made sure all the hoses were on and everything back to normal. All screws tight, all good. The car starts, sputters and turns off by itself. I asked some people for advice and they said I should get a new gasket, the one that goes between the upper and lower plenum. Did that today, same shyt, car starts, sputters and then just dies. What could be wrong?

Was I supposed to put some kind of sealant on the gasket? Anything else I could have fcked up during installation? I'm gunna go check my hoses again, could be the fuel one.

Download this video I recorded of the car starting: http://www.twistedmods.com/Igor/Videos/Movie1.wmv

Gasket sealant, new gasket, problems, etc. What do the instructions say?
They should give you advice for troubleshooting and tell you if you need sealant. Make sure the right length bolts have been installed if different than stock, etc. and the rubber gasket around the oil inlet is not caught between the plenum parts. And the gasket is not crinkled or folded at some point.

you didn't mention this, but did you put the 6 cover bolts where the oem plenum used to bolt down into? I have heard that can really screw up the vacuum pressure.. could be BS, but I capped mine when I put my kinetix on...

also, did you redirect/connect the two vacuum hoses that when through the plenum inlet after/under the throttle body connection?

I would also recommend reseting ecu before starting... the volume change could be so drastic that the fuel to air ratio gets way outta wack and could/would cause it to conk out...

I think I flooded some spark plugs when it was working ****ty, cuz I added gas to keep it running. Now the car runs like crap, idles realll low, at like 600, and sometimes falls to 500 and almost turns off. I'm tired of messing with it, gunna take it to mechanic on Tuesday.

hmm crap... dirty spark plugs possibly from fuel gunk buildup n possibly in the injectors.. if you can find an autoparts store open today get a quart (or w/e the bottle recommends) of fuel tank cleaner... put that in it, let it run for a little bit.. take it out for a drive on your way to the gas station.. fill er up... if you wanna try to brush up the spark plugs urself give it a shot... if not then wait till tuesday if the cleaner doesn't work

I just remembered I had a similar problem with my old car... after plugs were changed, it turned out to be the oxygen sensor. I hope this is not the case, I hate shelling out money for repairs.

Ya never got the ECU to re-set did ya? I'd be doing that before O2 sensors/plugs and the like. No sealant on the gasket and the old one (being metal) shoulda' been fine. Check the MAF sensor plug to make sure that ya didn't wack it. Try the re-set again....please. I know it's a pain, but it should be done after a mod like the Plenum
