Motordyne 5/16" and K&N w/ Z-Tube

Guys,

Well the bug has gripped me, and it won't let go! I ordered that Stillen Z-Tube and drop in K&N last Friday, and now I just ordered the Motordyne 5/16" spacer!!!

Do I have a problem? LOL.

Anyway, do you guys think I will feel a difference in the car with these two simple mods? I am hearing that the sound will change, the engine note will change, but I have also seen dyno information on the spacer that proves gains. I am just interested in if I will feel a difference in the butt-o-meter? I have been around some quick cars and owned a low 12 second Mustang Cobra (aren't they all?) so my butt-o-meter is pretty fine tuned! I was just wondering if the car will lose its "luxury touring" feel and sound with these mods? And will I feel a difference in acce4leration, either top-end or off the line?

Thanks for any and all of your imput! Great forum here!

Don

I am leaning away from doing the entire intake for now. Want to keep the stock, "stealth" look for now. Also, I am not so concerned about sound, per se, but rather performance. I know the sound will change a bit, but I know I will receive a nice gain from the 5/16" spacer (copper iso therm). Thanks!

Diamond Don..............

The MotorDyne spacer is a good idea along with the
Z-Tube but the K&N dropin is a waste of your cash.
If you had ordered the Stillen CAI it comes with the
huge K&N filter.....the combo will show results.

all intake mods are for sounds

power gains from intake mods are marginal cause the stock intake is already really good

or so ive read

You will feel the spacer for sure, it's a pretty noticeable difference compared to other intake mods. The Z-Tube is nice for sound effects but I am not sure about realistic power gain. The K&N? I just use it because I put synthetic oil in my car so I don't need to change out my air filter every 3750 miles.

Very good. I am excited to get the spacer on in time for some good oxygen dense autumn air and try to get this thing to run a high 13 at the track. I think it can be possible.

i dont think you can run high 13s with just a plenum spacer....i think you might be expecting a little too much from the spacer...

but anythings possible i guess...

are you 6mt or 5at?

I agree. The spacer is a nice change but it is almost more about response than raw power. But for some cars running on the edge of 14.0 sec. it could be enough to tilt the time in your favor.

I am a 6mt, pretty good driver.....

I would really like to see what some good air and these two simple mods can do.

It specifically states in the Motordyne instructions that YOU DO NOT have to reset the ECU if you installed it properly!!! The only reason you might need to reset it is if you happened to mess with the butterfly in the throttle body. Then you would need to do a throttle position ECU reset.

With that being said, I didn't reset my ECU either.

I installed the spacer this weekend, along with the Stillen Z-Tube, and I feel a slight difference. The car seems to be a tad louder (nothing obtrusive) from the intake side, a small perceived change in the exhaust note, and the car seems to pull a bit harder above 3500-4000 RPM. I drove the car on about a 70 mile round trip, mostly highway, and accellerated hard from the tolls. This is where I felt the slight perceived harder pull.
