350z Duct - sound bite

OK. so here's the sound bite I promised.

idle, then 1k rpms, then 2k rpms, then 3k rpms - then a 6500 rpm rev....followed by a cut off 3k.

Re: 350z Duct - sound bite

I plan on doing this to my g35c...

I have a question about the rubber hose that hooks on it...

it seems that the Z and G have a different location to where it hooks up....

so do I need to change my hose on my G? for the Z duct to fit?

The stock hose fits fine.

Re: 350z Duct - sound bite

Hey guys....i'm really interested in this install, but would like to familiarize myself with it....What advantages do the 350z tubes have over the G tubes? What is the purpose for switching? Can anyone install these tubes or do I need to get it done by a shop? Thanks in advance for the answers

Re: 350z Duct - sound bite

The Z tube is a bit smoother on the inside & without the resonators of the stock duct. It therefore sounds a bit more 'throaty' and should provide more airflow with possible increase in HP. The sporty sound is especially noticeable over 3500 RPM.

It took me less than 15 min to install including pics (posted on another thread), so should therefore be quite simple for most ppl to do themselves with little mechanical ability.

Re: 350z Duct - sound bite

I have the 350z duct installed on my G35C without any other air filter mods. I notice this, off the line I can feel a difference, although at high freeways speeds the acceleration seems to lag, so we called a factory engineer. Verdict: the G35 stock duct is designed with a upper & lower resonator to decrease noise upon acceleration, but this resonator also provides better throttle response at high speeds due to the already present volume of air circulating inside the duct. I drive surface streets (by choice) so I will leave the 350z duct in, but if I were a freeway driver I would go stock, just makes sense.

Reset your idle, throttle and accelerator peddle and ECU.

I have experienced zero "bad" with this mod. All good. very, very, good...

Re: 350z Duct - sound bite

With regard to the resonators... I did effectively the same mod YEARS ago on my 4cylinder MX-6. Made a HUGE difference in low end. Enough that a passenger could tell. Top end response was definitely blunted, but for around town it was great. The nice thing was that the resonator was such that you could connect/disconnect without changing the tube because it was in front of the filter box.
