intense power y-pipe thoughts?

hey guys,

i was looking through the intense power site for parts and came across their own y-pipe. i think i remember it being on sale for 130 or something close to that figure. that's awfully cheap and was wondering if anybody on the boards has had first hand experience with this part or any of their other exhaust parts. TIA

search funtion is VERY useful..

there was a thread about this a week ago or so

https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-exhaust/120420-intensepower-y-pipe.html

general consensus, you get what you pay for (though there are some exceptions to this rule )

i will say this though, i was advised by my friend at nismo that the JIC y pipe is the only y pipe worth buying

after looking at the intense power y pipe..ive come to the conclusion thats its a waste of money (no offense intense)

only y pipes i would ever get are the JIC and Top Secret ones

but those are both pricey

And what exactly are those reasons?

look at the shape of it

if youve ever taken geometry you should remember that the fastest way from point a to point b is a straight line

now look at top secrets design/version of a y pipe

Thanks for the pictures. I note the lack of flex sections. That doesn't concern you? Also what is the outlet size of these? Aren't they like 3" vs 2.5" or something? I never thought going from a 3" outlet into a stock inlet that was smaller was a good idea.

For the design, I'm not that sure the gentle bends of the other Y's will make a big difference (a dyno verifible one anyway). Are there some dynos or member opinions on these?

All this love for y-pipes, but no dynos (JIC, Top Secret, Intense, etc) on this site or on 350Z site. I believe Intense hasn't even dynoed their own pipe yet. I'd love to see a dyno for at least one of these y-pipes. Just because it "looks" to flow well doesn't mean it's going to make power.

I could probably make that straight line one w/ flex sections.

lack of flex sections dont concerm me at all. i havent looked into the outlet sizes cause im not really interested in getting a y pipe, im just simply stating my opinion in terms of designs. the exhaust has to travel almost 90 degress, twice! on each side! on the intense y pipe whereas it can just about flow straight with the top secret y pipe.

It should because the point of those flex sections is:

1) Reduce NVH, especially vibration

2) Reduce stress on the manifold studs when the engine torques over while under load.

i see. well i dont know the technicalities but im sure ts has done their fair share of research and has a reason to leave out the flex points and still charge over 800 bucks (i think it was) for a y pipe.

but i do see your points.

Hey all -

The Intense Power y-pipe is not at all my favorite. The air has no room to equalize out of the Y.

The JIC Y is far better. The pipes actually join before the collector and the collector is large. This allows for a decent level of pulse equalization and scavenging...though not anywhere near a true dual and X pipe configuration.

If you have plans of doing CATS or headers, going FI at all, or building more NA - DO NOT waste money on a Y-pipe - just go true dual catback and be done with it.....in other words, save you money and do it right the first time.

Y.........not?

I've been running the Fuji Y for the past six months.
It has everything you could ask for including the
correct size for our cars. (2 1/2") Plus it look like a
show quality piece with a good sized collector.
